I searched to see if i could find anything about the difference between standard grade 1, 2, and 3 but nothing came up. The other question was what the difference between piston ring types, there is nihon i believe and one other kind. Didnt know if there was a difference. Im gonna be running the SOHC pistons, not overbored, JWT stage 2 cams, and im going to design a custom intake manifold that will utilize a Q45 90m throttle body. Probably going to fabricate some custom intake tubing too. If anyone can lend me a hand with the piston and ring questions id appreciate it.

piston grade has to do with clearances on stock bores. the grades for each bore should be stamped on the top of the block.

if someone has an FSM for the DE, i'll post the grades for the E so we can make sure they are the same.

From the FSM for a '93.

In millimeters...

Piston Skirt Diameter

Grade #1 = 88.970 - 88.980

Grade #2 = 88.980 - 88.990

Grade #3 = 88.990 - 89.000

Was that what you were looking for, demcj?

FSM's are the best thing you can own, the FAQ's tel you where you can get one. Get one before doing any mechanical work on the KA engine.

In 99 Nissan started using chrome rings for the Altima KA. I say these are the best because they list for 70 bucks and are OEM! :)
