So in an effort to determine/locate/price the parts I'm going to need to go turbo I came across a piping issue.

I'm all about some DIY, however I don't crap about welding/fabricating piping or have access to even the most basic equipment to start learning that stuff.

What have you guys used for a hot pipe ( S14 )? Especially you top mount guys. I'm looking at the JGS T3 kit, and all the info for it says that you can use SR intercooler kits, but SR kits come without a hotpipe. Also the hotpipes premade for SR are designed mainly for bottom mount setups.

If anything I can trim or cut down an SR hotpipe if it comes close enough, but if it would save me time/money to just have one made I'd like to know in advance that the hotpipe piece has to be custom.

You can use J-Bends made from aluminum or mild steel. Then just cut them up and use couplers to attach them. Use some hairspray on the couplers and they will never pop off.

My SR kit came with a hotpipe, but like you said it was designed for a bottom mount setup. My turbo outlet however puts the hotpipe above the manifold, right about where a top mount's outlet would be. I say get an SR kit and a 90 degree coupler. The 90 as well as clocking your turbo should get you within range for the SR hotpipe.

The pipe kits usually do come with a sr bottom mount hotpipe- in 2 peices.

Use the bottom piece that connects to the intercooler, and you'll have to fab something for the turbo to pipe.

I used a 2" L pipe, and a long 6-8" 2" coupler.

This is with the JGS manifold.

The turbo is clocked facing the driver strut.

Here it runs down thru the hole to the lower intercooler piece.

Here's a shot from underneath the car, showing the long coupler connecting to the lower ic pipe.

Hope this helps.

that helps a lot actually. i guess i can just get an sr IC kit and buy a few couplers, maybe a straight pipe and be okay.

That will work( what I used), but the cold side is too short too, you'll need a mid pipe or another long coupler.

I has issues with the output pipe from the FMIC popping off where it connected to the next junction. Total b**** to reattach on the side of the road. Someone mentioned hairspray to me and I've been using it ever since. Works like a friggin camp I made my first set of piping with j-bends, couplers and a sawzall. The hairspray came shortly after.

Haha I blew that coupler off today as well. Luckily I was in my neighborhood and I was able to massage it back on to my intercooler.
