Does anyone have this head unit?

I just looking into some good head units under 500 to buy with my graduation money, and I needed some opinions.

I like the features and options on the P8000BT, but I'm open to suggestions.

Here's a link to the Crutchfield page.

For $500 you can get a headunit with video. For 600 you can probably get navigation built in as well.

http://www.salectronics.com/de...DX512 for example.

I'm gettin it from crutchfield cuz it comes with the installation kit, and free shipping.

The main reason i wanted the p8000 is because of the built in bluetooth, and I feel around for the buttons on my stereo so I dont have to look away.... (BTW thats the same reason i dont want an iphone or a ipod touch.)

If I ever get a navi, I'll get a tom tom or something similar so i can take it everywhere (other cars).

And I don't think I'll watch any DVDs. I don't have any kids.. haha.

Any other suggestions for a double din head unit?

what does watching DVD's have to do with having kids???

I watch music videos on DVD all day everyday on my Nav unit... or on trips up to LA, I'll throw in a movie in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround ... and hey, there's always those "other" DVD's

I read that the P4000DVD only has 4 outputs.

"outputs: video output, 4-channel preamp outputs (front, rear/subwoofer)"

I am a little confused on how I can hook up an amp and a sub, while powering the rear speakers. Do I have to split any wires to do that? (My amp is only a 2 channel)

you're not hooking the inside speakers up to an amp are you???

if not, you just use the regular speaker wires attached to the pioneer harness fpr the speakers... then, you only need the rear/sub preout to go to the sub's amp

No no no no...

I'm trying to say that the second head unit has 4 preamps. That is the four stock speakers. The first one has 5 preamps, so I can hook up all 4 speakers to the head unit, and then one preamp to the amp to the sub.

I am saying I don't understand what Rear/Sub i saying. There are 2 rear speakers and 1 sub. Wouldn't that require 3 preamps in the head unit?

the first one had 6 preamps

the second one does have 4 preamps.. what I'm saying is that if you are ONLY hooking up 1 amp, ie your sub amp, then you can just use the regular wires to power the internal speakers (without an amp) and use the rear/sub preouts to supply your sub's amp

If you are using both a 4 channel amp for your interior speakers, and a seperate mono amp for the sub, then you could use the front preouts to supply the first two channels, then, use the rear/sub preouts to supply the rear channels on the 4 channel amp, and then you would need a hi-lo converter and use the signal from the wires taht would supply your rear speakers, and attach the rca o the hi lo converter to your sub's amp

So, long story short, it would be better to go with the first unit... not only because it has more preouts, but its is just an all around better unit than the p4000dvd.. which is a piece of crap IMO!
