I'm debating as to which one I wanna go with. I have always been a Die Hard Pioneer person but I've been hearing rave reviews about the new Kenwood DNX8120. I already have Pioneer Components from my '03 Alti that I wanted to use in my A/C but if I do go with the Kenwood Unit, I will have to get Kenwood Components. (I Like to match my speakers with the head unit).

Eventially I am gonna be installing one of my 15" Mmats Juggernaut Subs in the trunk w/a Mmats 2200.1 amp, my Audio Control 3.1 EQ and my Audio Control Matrix unit. What do you all think? Which one would be better for me and a better unit over all?

Howdy. Check here for more hands on info about the 8120: http://forums.altimas.org/zerothread/331609. rjdmmfl1 switched from a Pioneer D3 to a Kenwood 8120, and recommends it over the Z2/Z3 also. But why do you have to match your speakers to your head unit? I can't imagine it'd make any difference whatsoever...

From what he posted it seems like it's his personal preference to do so not because it will realize any kind of benefits in terms of sound.

yeah....it's just a personal preference....that's just how i've been since i was younger till now. I know it may not make a difference but I just like to match my speakers with the head unit.....Unless I go with some mb quarts or boston acoustic speakers.

please read my wirteup on the DNX-8120, and why it is a better unit than the Avic Z2 or Z3.

Also, I understand for nostalgias sake the whole going with the same speaker/heaunit company, but in doing so you are severely limiting yourself.

Pioneer makes AWFUL components and Kenwood's components aren't much better. Every company has their strong points, and while source units may be strong points for pioneer and kenwood, these companies have few other areas in which they shine regarding car audio!

rjdmmfl1........I read your write up and was impressed by the Kenwood and am more than likely gonna go with that unit. Now one question I have....I have in my car the Pioneer DEH-9600 and I cannot get clear radio stations. Would this have anything to do with the radio...the car....a combo of both....or do i need an antenna booster? Do you have any problems with your kenwood regaurding this?

No, no problem at all with the radio... I've heard a few folks complain about not getting good reception... I can only imagine that the antena somhow is not hooked up properpy, but short of that, I don't know what would cause poor radio reception.
