Pinstripe?

I had a run-in with a taxi and scrapped my right rear door, panel and bumper. I am taking the car into the autobody shop on Monday to get repaired. The estimate is only $340 which equates to probably around $800 in the US.

I'd like to have the car come out better than it went in.....I'm thinking pinstripe. The hatch has that ridge below the window which seems perfect for a pinstripe. I like the red/black contrast on the factory vehicle so possibly a black stripe or silver?

I have seen kimberkenobi's sapphire blue grill but that is a bigger change than I am comfortable with. Does anybody have any pictures of pinstripes or some other subtle paint mod?

Are you thinking of a painted on pinstripe or tape?

I have one, but no good pictures right now. Mine's just a simple silver one. I think I remember CodeRed having one on his, which was displayed on his photoshoot post...

either and since its going to the autobody they could paint it in. Are there advantages of one type over the other?

Personally, I like the painted striping. They can also do more custom things which look cool to me. Very distinctive. You are going to pay more for painted though. Well worth the money.

Oh my lord.

For all these years I have been wondering why every single used car I buy has some gay pinstripes across the side. Now I know who you are.

In all seriousness, keep pinstripes away from your car if you care about it or its paint, or its future owners. Pinstripes are garbage. My advice would be for you to keep your car classy and clean.

Hmm... well, there are quite a few of us that like pinstripes.

I too would personally rather have them painted on the car (more control, and more durable too)..

But since when has any car owner ever put the concern of a future owner over his own? Ever?

Now... as far as protection of paint goes, that kind of interests me. What basis do you have for this statement? I have seen plenty of cars have their pinstripes damaged or go south, but the paint underneath was in good shape, possibly even better than the surrounding paint.. yet I can't recall an instance where I have seen pinstriping damage a vehicle's paint.

I had pinstripes on my Tercel, and they (along with help from me) damaged the paint.

Here's the deal though.... It was as much my fault as anyone else's. I left the car out in the sun for over a year while I went to Afghanistan. when I returned, my paint was bleached, and the clear coat destroyed...so I went to have it repainted. the bodyshop told me that if I did the labor (removing seats, dash, panels, all graphics, as I was doing a complete color change from white to blue) that they would pick it up AND cut me a break since I saved them time.

When I pulled the pinstripes up, I had to use a razor to break them free, and the paint came up with the pinstripe. Didn't matter though, because the whole point was to get it repainted anyway.

Other than an obvious reason such as that, though, why would anyone remove pinstriping? I happen to like how it looks, especially if done well.

My main issue was with the cheap ORIGINAL paint and the elements, NOT the pinstripes themselves.

I personally believe in FORM and FUNCTION, mainly function over form, but pinstripes and tinted tail lights are one of those things that just dont do anything good for your car IMO.

Yes, everyone has the right to do as they please to their cars, I know this but it just feels so wrong to violate a brand new car like that......

Does it go faster? Look better? Does the pinstripe make the car look like its flying? I just dont get the benefit of the pinstripe besides sticking it or painting it (worse) on your car so you can ruin the paint underneath it.

So I guess that all cars should be black. Or red. Or whichever color YOU like best? People like different things. It's not all about function. Lowering, 18's, pinstripes, spoilers, they all simply change the look of the vehicle to make it as the owner desires. Pinstripes do not ruin the paint. They do nothing to the paint at all unless you attempt to remove them. As for future owners, I suspect that if they buy your car from you, part of the reason is they like the way it looks - including the pinstripe.

Personalization or modifications of a persons automobile, Versa in this case can be anything we want.

It seems that LiteraryCannon has had some bad experiences with something in the past and seems to be focused on modifications that ONLY add speed, HP, or a measurable increase to the car.

I enjoy hearing from other versa owners and the cool things they are doing to the cars. I would rather not hear the negativity myself.

I see that the versa owners are in search of what is not available off the shelf, so we figure it out and give it a try.

Thank you everone for sharing you great ideas and handywork.

Mike
