Thanks CPJ LB

Your black roof looks nice, I may get my roof, ant & Sarona spoiler done too.

Because the body of the M is so big you need something to break up all that color. A nice 2-tone custom paint job would look killer on the M's.

I wanted to go with something sporty & different and not go overboard. Oem stripe was to simple for me and I really didn't want to do the VIP stripe as my car is far from that.

Roof wrapping in my area is big bucks and not too many shops do it.

calidoso
I did my tints so time ago but I think I paid $269 and they even covered the 3rd brake light area which some shops don't do.

Vinyl wrap in my area is too expensive, it's just about the same price as getting it painted. None can do the shark fin even when removed from the car, it just doesn't look good. Most are painting it or plasti-dip the fin.

The best thing about the wrap is that you can peel it off when you don't want it any more.

The bad is the price. Some shops are getting $100 an hr plus vinyl, thats unreal. Also if for some reason it gets damaged it will need to be replace, can't be fixed.

Paint:

It's alot more work & time (2 days for all 3 parts) getting the roof painted unlike a wrap that is done in 3 or 4 hrs. All the materials used when painting cost about 4 times more than the vinyl, time alone is about 6 times more. The going price on painting a roof in my area is $400 to $500

The good about paint is that you'll get a deeper & shinier look when done, very close to the look of the sunroof glass. If something was to happen to paint it could always be wet sanded & buffed out unlike vinyl which has to be replaced.

So IMO I rather get my roof painted for about the same money it would cost to get it wrapped.

And you won't belive me if I told you that painting my roof will cost less than me getting a wrap :nono:

I hope to get it done as soon as the weather gets better.

Can you tell me where you purchased the 6 piece vent shades and who made them?

I just returned a 4 piece set made by weather tech.
Thanks

Freddie,
Your car is unique in a brilliant way! It's modified, but doesn't go over the top into 'tricked-out' ghastly like pasting chrome all over or having wheels that spin whilst the car stands still, LOL.
Yours is very tasteful and it stands out only coz it's brilliant, not coz its a circus car.
Where did you get that side stripe? Did you do that on your own? It accentuates the shape of the body perfectly.

Thanks Larz for the kind words

I've been looking to break up all that grey for a while but because of the lack of local shops in my area I never got to do it. I was lucky to find a person about 20mins from my house that works with vinyl graphics out of his house.

I was able to design the strip myself on my computer (I'm computer duummm). When I was done I e-mailed it and he took over and made me 2 clean samples of my design.

At the end he fixed my design, cut the vinyl out of 3M, came to my garage and installed all the pcs. All was done with-in 8hrs.

Not only did it break up all that grey it also gave it that small sporty look that my M needed. Best part is that I can remove it in the future to get back to a stock oem look or just to upgrade to a different design.

Now I took it a step further and got the roof, roof spoiler & fin ant painted high gloss black. But with my luck because of the weather the roof spoiler & fin ant have to get redone. We had a few snow storms up here in NJ with temps as low as 1 degrees. I hope very soon we get a break with at least one good week with good weather so I can take the M back to the shop.

The car is now sitting in my garage with the stock 18" wheels & tires look really ugly. I tell everyone that passes by and takes a look at the car that it's under constuction :frown:

I'm hoping to have a new look for 2014
