K, i'm pinging heaps on 13 psi, but only when it's a warmer day e.g. today it was 25c.. Timing is at stock 15 btdc, and my safc is running.. anyone help out ? should i just unplug my safc so my injectors run flat out ?

Help !

Pete

add octane boost or use premium if you are running regular, or roll the timing back, and/or get a colder thermostat or a bigger intercooler.

600mmx300mmx75mm 'cooler big enough ??

Was tuned and timing done when i got it dynoe'd, but that was during winter, and as i'm coming into summer now, could it be that ??

Also i'm running BP 98 octane ( the highest pump petrol we can get), and i never run less..

Might hafta get them to check the timing again then.. If they knock it back, will it still be safe for winter?

it should be. How much higher are your water temps in summer than in winter? Whoever set that thing up really squeezed every last bit of power out of the engine if seasonal changes are enough to induce this, might want to go a little more conservative next time.

Yeah the guy who did it was a bit of a tool.. when i got the car back, i had problems like not starting up in the mornings, and jerking. then we knocked the timing back a smidgeon ( like 1-2 degrees) and it was fine in winter..

The water temps during summer are a little bit higher, but not by much.. last summer we had i went through a radiator, thermostat and rear heater hose, but i know the last guy did no maintenance at all..

Think i guess it's more dyno time then. see if i can get the dyno room really hor so we can induce it to work.. i know i've got plenty of fuel to give to it, cause we had to knock the safc to minus levels when it got tuned before, because of the injectors.

have you done a compression test? had an engine with very low compression on 2 cyliders that was detting with anthing over stock boost

Nah i havent yet.. i might back off my timing a few degrees and give that a go, then i might see if i can get a conmpression test done,

thanks mate.

I'm having the same problems and I thought it was just my o2 sensor, but I replaced that this weekend and I still have some jerking when cruising with minor throttle applied...under acceleration its completely fine, only when trying to at a steady speed. I guess I'll trying tweaking my timing. Wish it wasn't such a pain in the ***...haha

adversity makes success all the sweeter, keep plugging at it. When you get it finally and later down the road you can save somebody the headache with your experience you will feel good. When I say things like "don't hit a tire with a big rubber mallet" I speak from experience, damned near caved my forehead in

I have jerking issues too and only when trying to use very minor (i.e. almost closed) throttle, I can tell my injectors are switching off when it happens (they are loud), like the ECU thinks I've completely closed the throttle when I haven't. I'm figuring its a TPS sensor issue, I haven't yet played with it or tried swapping it out..

You sure it pinging and not a miss? It maybe a rich spot (or lean for those in the thread with a bogging or pinging issue).

Trash, if you fixes your problem, consider it a band-aid.

Diffintely a ping, had a mechanic in the car, and i used to own a lancer that pinged allllll the time.

I had a talk to one of the engine builders down here last night, and he said back the timing off 2-3 degrees, whats obviously been done is that the guy who tuned it before gave it so much timing so it could make hp, when i specificilly said i'm going to thrash the living pants off this thing at track day.. hmm..

ATM i;m using some iridium plugs, but i plan on doing a plug change tonight/tommorow night after work.. i generally use 6s gapped to 0.8mm

try a set of BCPR7ES at 0.8mm and check your timing again, should be 14-15deg BTDC

my guess is timing issues, especially if you're using a SAFC as their drawback is that their fooled signal to the computer can have poor timing effects. I'd pull a few degrees of timing out of the CAS and see if that gets it.

MY CA is high compression, but it doesn't like a lot of advance regardless.

Tons of advance comes from the V8 days with poor combustion chamber designs. With the CA's pentroof combustion chamber, and centered plug, there is not need or reason for lots of advance. It'll only make you detonate...
