pinging and very lean

I have a 95 240 with a pretty much stock ka24de with 190000 miles that i just got from a friend. this makes it much harder to diag. the prob. because i do not know how it should run.

Anyhow it has been pinging when the throttle was bliped quickly and the plug were white. I meen white, lean white. This morning on the way to school it started pinging alot and then the mil came on. front o2 sensor. it was no more than 4 months old. I put a new one on it and it is still pinging.Had to retard timing all the way to get home, scared it was going to die.it is very weird. Fuel pressure is 36- 39 psi. new fuel filter. It has been showing a knock sensor code for a long time. on a consult the alph was around 100 so now i am thinking mass air flow? or cat? this really is testing me. Please help....

there is a ticking noise around the distr. every time i start the car (like bad coil or exhaust leak).

dude i have the simillar thing , 240sx 95 126k. my plugs are snow White, and the other day i had a hard time traing to start the car, and out of knoware White smoke , and stops , some days i cant start my car. MAF?

op I dont have a 95 or the fsm in front of me but your fuel pressure seems low @ 39 is that on or off vac? no vac should be like 43 or so psiif your knock sensor is bad then that would explain alot. It pulls timing when the engine is seeing knock(part reason why dohc engines run more agressive time)

Go around and check all of your electrical connections. There are several different ways to check. One is to jiggle the harness around, plain and simple. You can also wait till its realy realy dark outside and start up the car and pop the hood. If there is a broken wire you should be able to find it easier. Remember it need to be DARK(eyes and teeth...) .

It doesnt hurt to to clean your connectors out when your doing this. Do this in the day time. Make sure you dont loose any of the clips that came off of the plugs. You want to disconnect EVERY connection one at a time and clean them all with electric contact cleaner. the need to look somehwat clean. Squirt some dielectic grease in each, work the plug a bit and your done. It should only take you about 20 minuets to under the hood.

dude yesterday my car was running perfect an remember we had the same problems. the change that i did was. install a new cts in checker auto parts for 18 dlls, and inspect the cable for the knock sensor and reset the ecu dam my power almost came back, 30% more power, i was racing a for mustang 5.slow. so try that it can help you
