pilot bushing

when putting in a new pilot bushing, are you suppose to stick it in as far as it goes, or just enough so it doesn' stick out? thnx in advance

It should seat as far as it goes down. Once it seats, it will stop rather abruptly.

so basically i push it back, till it won't go anyfarther? correct?

Yes. And there is no need to hit it hard. driving it in would have about the resistance of a nail being driven into the 1st inch of a new 2x4.
