Well, I had to get a new pilot bushing for my crankshaft, because the other one was worn out and kind of tapered. So, I got a new one from Nissan...I believe its the same size as the 240SX pilot bushing. But anyways, long story short. I installed the new one today and have it seated about where it should be, but the clutch alignment tool will not go in. I know its the right bearing, because I had both checked with a micometer and they were the same size. Does anyone know whats going on? Did I seat the bushing too far? From the looks of it, it should be in the EXACT same spot the old one was and I have the right clutch alignment tool....HELP ME!

make sure you have the right pilot bushing. there are two recesses inside the crankshaft, ones for the automatic and ones for the manual , was your motor an automatic originally? make sure you removed the automatic one or else it wont work!

Yea, thats what I think I did. I'm going to get another bushing, maybe two. Good thing these bushing arent expensive. Any idea on what to use to drive the bearing into the crankshaft? I was using an deep socket...but that doesnt work well obviously. Need something softer.

I always used a round piece of wood, like to a leg of a chair or something like that. You can buy them at any Home Depot or Lowes. The wood is soft enough that it won't damage the pilot bushing, but strong enough to force it in when installing it.

Also what alignment tool are you using? I bought an XTD one and they sent me the wrong alignment tool for the clutch good thing I had input shaft for a 280zx transmission sitting around as it was the same size of the rb20det input shaft. I used that to align it and transmission went on like butter. I too used a deep socket to install pilot bushing it all depends on how hard you hit it. Really shouldn't even use the work hit here as I just tapped it in and ended up with no distortion of the busing. Good luck though.

I just ended up using another alignment tool that had it's tip cut off to install the new bushing. Worked great. And, I think it was harder the first time to get in the first time was because there a was a little bit of corrosion inside of the crankshaft where the bushing sits. So, I lightly sanded it and it basically tapped right in this time. Now....its time to get the NEO in. Thanks for your help guys.
