Just got the pictures of my wheel back.

You can see where the wheel collapsed

These are the pieces of the wheel that flew off.

The front view of my wheel and tire.

I am still waiting to hear back from Enkei (through Discount Tire). The tire should be covered under the road hazzard warranty. And the wheel should be covered under the structural warranty through Enkei. The big question will be the body damage.

The rocker panel is bent and the wheel well liner has a whole in it.

Guess the wheel well liner shouldn't be too much trouble to replace...the rocker panel will be though.

Well crap man, I'm glad your wife is alright. Looks like she hit whatever she hit hard! And thats strange about that wheel just breaking apart like that. I hope you get it taken care of with as little hassle as possible.

Discount didn't immediately shove an insurance claim form in front of you? These(and other, worse)things happen quite often. Tire dealers are well-insured. Most common claim is a wheel coming off a car while driving.

Doesn't Discount put any guarantee on the wheel?

They said it should be covered under the structural warranty from the manufacturer. They shipped the wheel to Enkei to be inspected.

Consider this: a nationwide chain of tire/wheel dealers isn't empowered by Enkei to make a judgement call on a broken wheel.

Manufacturers usually arrange a pre-set amount of credit with dealers to allow for a reasonable amount of warranteed/broken/cracked/pinhole-leaking wheels. This allows the dealer to look at the wheel, see an unusual problem, and take care of the customer right then and there. This would not only get you up and running immediately, but also show you that their business revolves around you, the customer.

I'll bet you feel like you are at the mercy of Enkei, as you wait and see if the wheel is covered under structural warranty.....when in truth it is them that should be answering to you, the guy with his checkbook open. It confuses me to no end, why such a large retailer with such a large nationwide market share and high profile, still make a guy sit on his hands and wait.

Discount has the leverage to make such a deal happen, and THEN worry about how the wheel broke.
