I got a '88 FC RX-7 about 2 months ago, blown engine of course. Its in great shape though. Its N/A right now, but I'm saving for a Turbo II Conversion. Since minimum wage is staying the same I should have enough by 2008

Quality is kinda low

Hopefully I can do it for right around $1000, but It will more than likely end up costing more. Its strange, its cheaper to buy a Turbo II engine than a N/A engine.

thanks guys

I work as a stock boy right now in a local grocery store. 5.15 an hour, and only 20 hours a week at the most. Subtract insurance and the cost of gas, and I'm left with practically nothing each month.

My drive to school, one way, is 20 minutes. Gas being $2 a gallon deosn't help either...

I'll get it running before summer, N/A or Turbo, both can be very fast.

Got a friend who just bought a 88 and a 87 Rex for $1500. The 88 was in pretty good shape. He's ordering the turbo kit and low comp. rotors soon. Cars are a blast to drive. Not a huge fan of the lack of lowend, however.

Pics of my recently retired '87...sold it for $600 220,000+ mies. Some faucker ran me off the interstate, I fly in a ditch going 80 mph, every tie-rod was bent, replaced the rack and pinion but she never drove the same. She was actually my 2nd Rx7, had one for 3 days and totalled it...didn't get to enjoy it, so I bought an identical one a week later. These cars are a blast to drive and I WILL definetely get another one in the future!!

Enjoy yours...I know you will.

P.S. - I got a qoute of over $2,000 for the turbo upgrade...you will also want the hood scoop and vented side mirrors too though!!It will be cheaper to find a Turbo that hasn't been ragged out though.

may i ask what the vented side mirrors are for?

there were two fcs at my high school last year, both of them that desert gold color, these colors are so much hotter.

Those 'vented' side mirrors were stock on turbo models (99% sure), if an Rx7 was just badged 'turbo' it was just that..badged. It is just a visual difference between the turbo models along with the hood scoop....but I don't think all turbos necessarily had the wing on the back. I never liked the wings on the Rx7s. I think everyone should own one...or at least drive one once in their life!!

I got rid of mine and soon after drifting's popularity rose. They are starting to hold their price on Ebay now...with a lot of them mentioning them as 'drifting capable' due to the RWD. I think they will be popular with the drfiting crowd...should have kept it just for that.

WTH, is that 5.15 after taxes or something? Here in SoCal our minimum wage is 6.75. O yea, nice car btw.

i think cali has a state raised minimum wage, federal is 5.15 though, new york almost did it but they were afraid businesses would go elsewhere to avoid the higher wages they would have to pay. good thing for raises right?

When I first got my s14 back in March (99k miles, pretty decent shape cept for part of the backend havin a softball sized dent in it from the owner apparently backing into something, 2k ), which was just as I was learning exactly how awesome my car was ( I didn't even know about 240s, was originally plannin on a prelude for way more money when a friend of my father's told him about wanting to get rid of their car for cheap), I took it to the local Jiffy Lube to change the oil, air filter, fuel filter, and injectors (shop is full of Nissan buffs), I was talking with one of the mechanics and they were talking about their RX-7 they had a few years ago and built the hell out of it (became an obsession of course), 816 hp dyno at the wheels. I've always liked RX-7s, but had no clue they could turn into that much of a beast. Never driven a rotary engine, its definately something I'll have to make a point of doing. He only got rid of the car after 6 speeding tickets (and multiple others he should have had, but it was in GA and he was good friends with several of the cops), his last one being a 140mph ticket. Thats a very sweet looking car you have

The NA ones are still pretty sweet, thought at all about leaving it that way?

I go to a weekly garage meet that is VERY FC-heavy, guy who organizes it has five. We just pulled one motor out of a GXL that he's going to sideport and turn into a 15k rpm monstrosity.

Beautiful RX-7, best of luck on the Tubro conversion. Sucks that you minimum is only 5.15 in Washington it's like 7.00 if not more (can't remember if it was raised or not)

Leave her N/A man. I really loved mine, and with the tasty goodies I had on her I had no problem owning LT1s on the highway. Great platform, and I can't wait till I get a bigger garage do I can own another one!
