based on the interim findings of the materials/component compatibility testing, there are a number of materials utilised in the vehicles components tested to provide sufficient evidence that the potential impacts on the Australian vehicle fleet are of sufficient magnitude to consider them as unacceptable.

"It is quite clear that the level of tarnishing of copper and brass components is significantly increased when the component is immersed on the E20 test fluid. The tarnish is effectively oxidation of the surface of the component. For moving components in contact with other parts, such as the commutator of a fuel pump armature and the brushes, oxidation provides the potential of very much increased wear rates of both components that may result in premature component failure. Many of these brass and copper components carry an electrical load. The potential exists for a high contact resistance at electrical connections due to the oxide layer that may result in reduced performance or non-operation of the component".

And the geniuses in Arizona's Legislature force us to use Ethanol-laced gas for six months out of the year...

Bastards.

p.s. Welcome back, Dennis! We've missed you!

Note the swelling of inside diameter of fuel return line rubber hose........can you say Q45 fuel smells in winter.

One of reasons Infiniti went to returnless fuel system fewer hoses.

No matter there is no technology that will not tarnish with water/ethanolized fuel..........copper and brass are needed in fuel pump.

The unseen problem is what the mixture does to valves and piston rings, bearing [from ethanol in oil at startup before warm up].

2000 hours of immersion is 83 days, a little soon for a vehicle to wear out!

But that's with 20%, so US might last a year with 10%............that 12 month, 12,000 mile parts warranty sounds just long enough.

So, with 85% ethanol, we could be seeing much worse effects.

At least you get the good stuff for six months. We have to live with it for the whole year in Denver.

What is the fuel quality in California, anyone know. The highest octane around is 91 and im considering bringing that up with some booters. worth it?

Understand that the 1 point increase is 0.1 point [1%] of octane increase.Marketing gargon designed to confuse.

No matter how much you use, even 10% by volume, hard to add even 1 octane, as they have already tricked up the fuel.

Toluene or p/m- xylene is the product that is most effective and least cost per real point increase if you buy in 55 gallon drums and just add 5%........1 gallon per tank full.

http://www.elektro.com/~audi/toluene/

10% ethanol already adds 3-4 REAL points to basic gasoline, so you can see how bad the basic gasoline without ethanol really is!

"the F1 racers did not use 100% toluene, but 84%. The other 16% in their brew is n-heptane, which has an octane rating of zero. The reason for this strange combination is because the F1 rocket fuel was limited to the rules to being of 102 RON octane. The n-heptane is "filler" to make the fuel comply with the rules. "http://www.tundrasolutions.com...-fuel/

At $5 per gallon [toluene] you can add 1 REAL point of octane for 25 cents per gallon of gasoline, using over the counter octane boosters would cost you $2-$3 per gallon of fuel upgraded.

A few places will sell racegas 100- VPN is one company. On occasion I will run 50-50 in my M5 if I am tracking/playing. Anything over 95-96 is wasted in THAT CAR as the ECU can only adjust maps so much to wring out the benefit- not sure what the Q can actually use. I know one station in Sacramento (Watt ave) and one in Redwood City (76 on woodside). $4.50-5.50 a gallon

Wow, that sucks. We have 93 octane here but it is ethanol. I can drive 25 miles and get the good stuff though.

I understand from my dad in KS, where Ethanol is optional, it is priced the same as plus, but has like 103 octane, but that is the E85 (85% Ethanol). He is sold on Ethanol. I am going to show him the information from Australia. It is a real eye opener.
