Hey guys Im getting my windows tinted soon and I wanted to compare what different percentages were gonna look like. I was thinking 35% on the front 2 and then somewhere between 5 and 30 on the back 3

Hey man,

I had 35% originally and upgraded to 20% all around. I would say do the 20% in the front and 10% in the back it looks sick

Depending on the light output the tints either look real dark or real light lol

I think you're asking the wrong question. The question is how much can you afford in tickets if you were to be pulled over? It's been proven time and time again here and on other forums that there are..yes..believe it or not, cops that have nothing better to do but to chase around cars and give them tickets for their tints. Bottom line is, it's your money and if you like the attention of cops chasing you down for your tints, then by all means, go dark. If not, I'd do the state legal 35% all around. Trust me, it'll be dark in the car and you'll still be able to see out your rear and side mirrors at night..something you can't do if you went with dark tints.

Don't give the cops more ammo than they already have...

Btw, here's what this webiste stated when I googled North Carolina Tint Laws..

North Carolina Tint Law Enacted: 2001HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN NORTH CAROLINA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In North Carolina, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.Front Side Windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in.Back Side Windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in.Rear Window: Must allow more than 35% of light in. HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN NORTH CAROLINA?

Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.Front Side Windows: Must not be more than 20% reflective.Back Side Windows: Must not be more than 20% reflective. OTHER NORTH CAROLINA RULES AND REGULATIONSRestricted Colors: The tint color(s) of RED AMBER YELLOW are not legal by state law.Side Mirrors: Dual side mirrors are required if back window is tinted.Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film do NOT need to certify the film they sell in the state.Sticker Requirements: No sticker to identify legal tinting is required.Medical Exemption: State allows medical exemptions for special tint. For more details about the specific terms of the exemption, consult your state law.

honestly, there's really not much difference between the two. A cop won't be able to put a tint meeter on your back window but he can on the side wing windows. If he pulls a number lower than 35% on the side wing windows, that's enough reason for him to make you tear it off and give you a ticket. If you really want to, go with 35% on the 4 windows on the sides and go 20% on the rear.

you guys get screwed in the heartland. out here in cali, it is just a slap on the wrist. you get a "fix it ticket" and are required to strip your tint off the windows. but after you get the ticket signed off, no payment due, you can re-tint your windows and start all over again. although, they do make hondas pop the hood on routine traffic stops around here. im sure if your car had a non factory look, they might ask you to check under the hood, but like i said earlier, hondas are their main focus around here. i was going to get 5% all around this weekend, but i decided it was time to take the bimmer to the shop instead.

I agree with what apple and a few others have said about tickets and legality. In my state the legal limit is 35% but it is really uncommon to get just a tinting ticket. Usually they are stopping you for something else, then they may check your tint. I used to be a cop at the port. We didnt do a lot of traffic related stuff but our policy was, "At the officers discretion", I never handed out a tint ticket in the 3 years I did it.

I have had on all my cars 20% on the front doors and 10 or 5 on the back, never got a tint ticket even when being stopped for other things. I dont know anyone in my family or any friends that have gotten tint tickes. I do know a guy i used to work with who got a tint ticket but he got stopped for doing 110 on the freeway with an open beer in his cupholder, then busted for tints

Find out what the law is in your town and talk to friends to find out how aggresive the cops are in your town about tint violations, that might help you decide what to go with.

I have 20/10 on my A/C BTW (it was on there when I bought it) and it looks pretty good and I'll probablly stick with it.

tint laws in nj dont allow any tints in the front AT ALL , so most of you non-NJ residents are lucky to have even 35% imo. although, i havent heard anyone I know of getting pulled over for theres; yet.

White car, problem!

White cars with tinted windows are a dead giveaway for cops if they care about tinted windows.

When 2 cars are going by, its easier to spot the white car with 35% than it is to spot the black car with 15%.

If 20 is the legal limit, id go 15% and call it a day tho!

I'd add that the interior color matters just about as much. I don't have any decent pictures of my car, and my sig is pre-tints, but I went with 20% in the rear (legal limit in CT) and 35% on the side (also the legal limit). My roommate pleaded with me that I ought to go 20% on the side (the route he went), but I had two reasons why it wasn't as necessary:

1. My car's white. From a cosmetic standpoint, you don't need to go as dark to make as bold a statement. His car was red, so you kinda had to.

2. My car's interior is black leather. You don't need dark tints in order to not be able to see the inside. Especially for the rear-side itty-bitty windows we have. There's enough plastic sticking in that it looks tinted unless you get down low enough to look through the other side. In contrast, my roommate had black leather with white leather inserts, and it's significantly easier to see through a tint when there's a giant white square staring back at you.

Let's not get confused here. Bri..15% is darker than 20%. one needs to read the local vehicle code as well as inspection code. In PA, legal tint is 70% light transmission. The tint manufacturers uses the opposite numbers. so if you got a 35% tint, that is more than a 70% light transmission, thus it would be legal.

Like I said before, there's a local state cop who has nothing but a hard on to give people tint tickets. I just found out that he's so anal about it he has it down to the freaking year! How many people out there know this law...probably .01%! Come to find out if you have a 1997 or earlier model car you can have the back window tinted. 1998 and later it is not permitted. Now I haven't seen this law or statue or code nor did my friend even told me the specific law, statue or code but I think it's a bunch of $hit and that the state trooper is talking out of his a$$!
