Yo, I got my coupe about 4 months ago and wanted to do a ca18 swap because I have one rotting away. I ended up buying a problematic rb20 powered hatch for cheap as a dd fun street car, and it ended up barely running but it was full of goodies. Anyway, I decided to hold onto the ca even longer and go ahead and build a decent rb20 coupe to take care of me for a while. The coupe started out as a totally non molested 89 base. Clean title, 200k miles. I could have driven it home it turns out but the car had a rod clacking away. I swapped in a 5 speed clutch pedal and etc after pulling the motor and cleaning up the bay some. I haven't painted anything final yet, this car has to run long enough for me to get soem crap done on other vehicles. When it can be taken apart again I will have a new head to put on the block and hopefully a full s2 rb20 top end. I am leaving the bottom alone unless something bad happens. With the head job will come some decent detailing and paint in the engine bay. I want this car to be a dd quality ride so I can sell it whenever, gotta get to my s14 and put in a 25 if I can make a little with this car.

How it arrived:

What were they thinking??!??!? Some splices were ok but most of the wires were cut and hanging randomly...

Car it came from:

And...the new project:

And, lastly, how she sits as I take this break....

Hehe, yeah, since I was fixing up the subframe and pieces, plus I had to swap it from the other chassis. I think that is gonna be my new method actually, especially putting in an rb. I stripped a ka24de out of an s14 chassis this last week the same way because it was brought to me with no bolts in any of the front suspension pieces save the top and bottom strut bolts/nuts. It only took about 3 actual work hours to remove the full thing and keep all my accessories and piping intact 100 percent. That was a first in 10 plus motor pulls! I will have more pics up soon and maybe a startup vid in a bit. I am wiring the battery cables through to the trunk, then I gotta swap over my fuel pump to a 255. After that I am checking my codes again, I had the ignition on and the car came up but no o2 sensor read and other small issues. I may have a bad o2 sensor, been chasing rich issues since I got the original car. I am making up a little mini afc sort of device tonigh too, I have a broken safc and I am going to use it to mod my maf signal and see how that affects things after she is running. Gotta save up for a new head and then I will switch to megasquirt.

Other news...I forgot to mention, I had two broken exhaust studs I was forced to leave alone for now. I sprayed my exhaust gasket before installation but I am gonna have to live with a little leak. I have the very front one broken and one of the back upper ones. Eh.

Alright back to work, I am gonna have this pig snortin soon!
