I, too, would be angry. I hope the city pays for the damages.

Though I certainly agree that they should have not left the road like that. I do not think you will/can get them to pay for you wheel. They will probably state that 100s of other people have driven over that same spot without a problem.

I'm curious, what size tires do you have? There are a couple of guys near me that drive Honda's. They have 20in rims. I think they're running 225/35 tires. Coincidently, they both hit the same pothole infront of my house. Both of their rims were completely destroyed.

Moral of the story. Put tires with taller walls on your wheels. This will give you a little more protection when hitting those "messed-up" parts of the road.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Good luck getting money from the city.

Well the speed limit on the road is 45 mph, The lip is pretty deep, and when its pitch black at night and you cant see it. The hole where the lip of the pothole is probally 4-7 inches in spots and I smoked it going 45 so My rim is nice and bent. Although im suprised my tire is holding air.

really doesnt' look like that much off a 'hole' per se....

How big is that drop off from the top of the road to the bottom of the hole or whatever? doesn't look that bad to me, but good luck...

I have 15'' wheels with 205/50/15 tires. Plenty of wall. also if they dont pay for my wheel or pay for the fix I will contact a lawyer or my local news channel who does storys sticking up for the "little guy" when they are getting jacked around by "bullys".

Here's a smarta$$ thought. When it's pitch black out, turn your head lights on. This might help you see.

When you hit a lip in the road like that at 45+MPH, it is bound to do some damage, obviously. I usually try to avoid them if at all possible. If I can't avoid them, I will slow down to ~5MPH and then go over them.

For some reason, when you hit lips like that on the freeway, doing 70+MPH, they cause less damage then when you hit them at slower speeds. Has anybody ever noticed this?

I really don't like when the News gets involved in things like this. Unless it's an extreme case, ie. not finishing someones house, or something like that. But all over a bent wheel? I understand where you're coming from, but that might be going a little too far. How much would it cost to hire a lier? ~$500~$1000, probably. How much would it cost to just replace the wheel? Maybe $200. I say ***** at the city. if they don't do anything, contact the local news. If still no response. Just replace the wheel and next time you're in the area of the hole, go slower.

See here is the thing, they dug it up the same day and patched it so it was fixed, I dont know if it sunk or what happened, it was unmarked and pitch black outside(I had my headlights on) If I would have saw it, I would have A. slowed down or B. Switched lanes. Its not like I wanted to hit the pothole I mean I dont want my rims all F'd up.

yeah they used a pavement stripper in WV and my friend bent 2 of his brand new 18's because there were no signs or warnings and it left like a 4" lip in an interstate highway. but the department of highways bought him a set of new rims.they also fixed my brother's mustang, a salt thrower truck threw a big chunk of salt and it slammed like a 5" dent in his hood.I'm sure they will take care of you.

moral of the story: OE tire size is your friend.

I'm surprised you could find a tire in that setup 205/50/15, usually in 15" that size is a summer tire or race tire (at least when i looked on tirerack)

If it wasn't for my chubby tires (205/60/15) i would have messed up rims *and* a messed up suspension by now. For some reason they decided to rip up 4 major arteries in my area, avoiding ripped up pavement, cement joints on a tarmac road, holes, etc is somewhat impossible. Any place that gets snow or cold weather is going to have crappy roads. Hence, when i do get rims for my car, i'm going no bigger than 16" (or if i can find some nice 15x7's i'd go with those). It's just more practical around this area.

maybe if you had some tires that are the correct size, that wouldn't have happened. 205/50/15 is NOT a correct size. you've cut down your sidewall 10% from the OEM OD.

stock isn't 185/60/15.

it's either 195/60/16 or 205/60/15.205/50/15 is way too small.

i'm surprised they're being compliant. Hopefully you'll hear from them again and that wasn't just a one-time call.

and yes, your'e alignment is probably way off now, your caster and your camber that is.
