Carl H and I put the finishing touches on the RB20 swap today. She fired right up and so far is running well. I still need to wire up the electric fans, but everything else seems mint. Big thanks to Carl, he did an awesome job on the wiring harness and helped a ton getting the engine prepped and in the car.

Just wondering what turbo elbows everyone is using. I had to use a pipe that was custom made by a guy in australia. It needed some cutting and banging to clear the steering shaft, but it got the car on the road. Only problem is that it doesnt separate the exhaust from the dump tube as well as i'd like and i have a nice exhaust leak out of the open wastegate dump. Did anyone get their stock elbow to work? Oh, this is in an s14 by the way, i hear the stock elbow clears in the s13's.Ok, enough jibba jabba, here are the pics

I got one of those SS auto-chrome dump pipes and had the ends cut off and things welded back on differently in order for it to fit. I have an s13 with a rb20det. I have that same apexi air filter too. (thanks spl!)

my custom elbow still rubs the steering shaft, but it doesn't bind or come in contact with the universal joint like the stock elbow did. We still had to beat the living crap out of it with a ball peen hammer to make it fit like it does now. too bad someone doesnt make an elbow that clears for this swap. I'm going to try and get in contact with the guy that made mine, with a few mods, it would fit like a charm, and be a must have part for an rb swap. The Apexi filter is definitly awesome, check it out: http://mkiv.com/techarticles/f....html

as i told carl a few days ago, I needed a fully custom one.

oh, and if its in contact with the shaft right now, you will probably get bind issues when you are turning and on the throttle. mine cleared by about 3/4 an inch but i have rub marks on my downpipe from where it hits the shaft after track days.

Ok Carl, I see now how you get the MAF cable to reach the MAF. I think it would look cleaner if you added a foot or so and ran it back by the firewall around the corner.

No fpr?

no fpr needed, tomei supplied a bypass valve to regulate pressure from the uprated pump, so in theroy it should be the same as stock, just more flow.yah, we could extend the maf more, but i dont like cutting into sheilded wire and it doesnt look bad as it is now and works fine.a buddy of mine said that he ran the maf cable along the charge pipe so you couldnt see it which works as well, but each to his own.

Hahah, i like that

Kamin, with the nismo mounts, that engine hardly moves at all. I do need more clearance, but so far binding hasn't been an issue.

Richard, get yer butt up to charlotte already. do you still want that extra greddy boost gauge? shoot me an email - [email protected]

what mounts are you guys using????? I have never had a problem with my RB swaps clearing the steering shaft in an S14 (OK one, but I fixed it with a grinder in about 2 minutes) but that was only once. I hope its not the McKinney (McRapeme) mounts, they make good stuff, but the prices almost kill your wallet more than the motor did. If anyone needs mounts you can contact me at: [email protected] or visit my site (after the new year) LOWLIFEKUSTOMZ.com

I'm using the r32 crossmember and nismo mounts for the rb20. just the way god intended !?

240sx2nr95 - I cleaned the bay a little, but all the parts i could get to are covered up by the engine. I wish i had more time to clean more, but the main goal was to get the 20 in and running.

Best way to clear the steering is a chop saw, 3" pipe and a welder... that's how I've built all of mine and it works very well. I'm going to pull it off and have a mandrel bent copy made based on the current one... but that's way down on the priority list.

i'm getting a modified stock elbow to replace my custom one. The guy who made my custom one is going to fix mine, so i'll have an elbow and open wastegate dump that clears the steering shaft. He makes a pretty nice piece, and if he does good on the new pipe, i'd like to try and get his name out here in the states (he's an aussie). His prices are pretty reasonable too, like $160 shipped for a stainless elbow with open dump and o2 bung welded in.
