Car had an aftermarket mirror on it, have yet to examine a stock one. Need to know if there is wiring for the map lights on the mirror as I should be getting a used OEM replacement. Can't seem to find anything on the web so far.

thanks

there's a two wire plug underneath the interior trim for the windshield header. according to my FSM, just pull the trim out, and the plug should be staring you in the face.

Cool, I'll look at it when I get the mirror in. Hopefully the former owner didn't cut the wires.

I have 3 mirrors from convertibles sitting at my house and only one has the maplights.. it was off a '94. the other 2 were off older ones and they don't have the maplights (neither does mine, a 93). Mine doesn't have the wiring for one either, so unless yours originally came with the maplights I doubt it does either. But anyway all you need to do is run power to them so its pretty simple. I'd recommend running it through ignition switched power so in case you forget to switch them off they won't run your battery dead, or you could run it through your door jambs and leave the switches on if you want them to come on when you open the door. just don't forget to fuse it no matter what you do.

^That's really weird since '93s and '94s should be the exact same. Guess I'll just see if there's a connector around the dome light above the winshield. Otherwise I'll wire it somehow.

mine is a 93 and mine does not have the plug. I got the mirror with maplights out of a 94 I found in the junkyard.

Just noticed when I got the mirror yesterday, that it has 3 wires, assuming seperate power wires and a ground. Still gotta look for the connector, but bet I don't have it. So it should be fun to run a power wire up to the dome light area.

Cool, hopefully they put in the wiring/connector in all of them at least. Would save me a lot of trouble. Wished it wasn't dark by the time I get home everyday so I could get this done.

Update:

From what I gathered, Verts with Leather (or something like that option) are the ones that had the map lights installed. Therefore I'll have to hard wire mine sometime. Just installed the mirror today.

I just removed a mirror with map lights from a vert with a cloth interior today.

Maybe they used up the stock of existing mirrors on early 93s before putting the lighted ones in.

it's hard to say. my '92 doesn't have the wiring.

I just got my mirror in this week. I should be doing the wiring up for it tomorrow. From what I can tell, the 3 wires are Ground Constant and Switched. The switched wire is a bypass circuit hooked up to the door ajar sensors and turns the lights on when you open the door up (my FSM shows no dome light when it displays the mirror, so I assume they doubled for interior light). The Black/Brown wire is the door ajar wire, the Black/White is your constant, and Black is your ground.

Let me know how you have to hook it up. My plan is just to find a constant power and ground and keep the dome light as is. Just not sure there is a constant power wire to the dome light at all.

I just finished wiring the mirror in today. Given that the mirror appeared to be a GM product (the plug on it was definitely GM), I couldn't figure a way to keep the switch bypass to make an interior light like the dome light. So in short, the map lights are only map lights, not a dome light as well.

What I did was run 2 wires from the mirror down the driver side A pillar. I found a few constant power sources. My first try was at the red/black going to the headlamp timer. I had originally thought it was a constant power, but didn't appear to be. My next trick was to tap into the Sky Blue wire going into the pop up dash switch. It's a constant power. That one worked. I just crimped a circle bolt down ground connecter to the other wire and grounded it to the chassis by the TCU.

As far as I can tell for the switch bypass, though. The original design was for a switched voltage to come in. I originally connected it to the dome light's power signal, but the map lights would just stay on instead of turn off when the doors closed. I tried putting it on the ground for the dome light and got nothing.

You sure the map light switches were in the "off" position?

Hmm, surprised you had to ground to a different place, thought grounding to the map light would have worked. Sucks to have to run wire up the pillars to find a power sourse though. Who knows when I'll get this done.

well if anyone needs one let me know ones the cage goes in I'm going with one of the wide angle mirrors so I'll have 2 stock vert mirrors and 1 of the map light ones available. or you can just buy what you need now and I'll use whatever other people don't want. I doubt I'll ever get around to wiring up the map lights.

Yeah, we figured that out in some other posts. This thing is just too old.
