About to go down the trail, very bumpy...1 to 2 foot high "moguls" created by sleds.

Closeup...can't really see the bumps unfortunately...

My QX4...

Trail again...a little ways down.

Car in between 2 of the smaller bumps.

Rear sticking up...

Me turning around and consequently getting stuck as off the trail it's powder.

Not too deep on that side...phew

The pic I took of the lake I live on...trying not to act like "the idiot that got stuck someplace where he probably shouldn't have been" when some sleds went by...

Better pic of me being stuck...

Always carry a shovel when planning these things...got out fine!

Trying to find a good flex picture, trail is narrow so I couldn't get it quite perfect.

Little better...

Other side...

One of the bigger "holes".

Rear is in between two bumps.

Only about an inch or two off the ground.

The good flex!

Very depressing how in NY my car is ALWAYS slushy and salty!

All in all, it was a fun 15 minutes! Hope you guys like...come up and visit in the summer and we'll hit the real trails!!

We call those "hoopties" or a rythm section in the dirtbike world...out in Calico (Fueler knows what I'm talking about, I imagine), there's a section right next to the blacktop that's about 3 miles of nothing but big, rolling hoopties...I tried to double one set in the Pathfinder...and 2 days later my battery was dead..needless to say, I didn't make it and bottomed out the front suspension HARD. My RM125 handles them just fine, though....Guess that's why I have the dirtbike...so I don't do stupid stuff in the Pathy...too bad it doesn't stop me.

I live in NY to lol. How did you get stuck? I drove the QX4 in 8 inches of freshsnow, and nothing lol. Thing is a beast, even going up hills. Did you use AUTO. The AUTO slides, but once you're in 4HI or 4LO, getting stuck is immpossible.

Nala, given what you did to your J30, I wouldn't talk smack.

It's not hard at all to dig in in snow not on an actual road. It's just like sand, only worse.

OP - I hate you! I miss fun snow trails to romp through.

Hehe, yea the snow is nice at times...we just got another 8-10 this morning! Unfortunately the snow gets VERY old to be driving in, I was in GA last week and I didn't want to come back to -20...

The "trail" in the pics is actually a gravel road to a parking area in the summer, they just don't plow it. We have over 500 miles of trail system behind our town of Old Forge in tha Adirondacks.

It's all groomed by 4 machines, but VERY illegal to take a car out on in the winter. Once the mud season passes the town opens up parts of the trail system for bikers, off-roaders, hikers, etc...

Some parts you can do 40 on, others it's going through a foot of solid mud! I'll take some of those pics this summer I hope.

As to getting stuck, I was doing fine, and yes i was in Lock, but the front tires just sunk in and there was no way I could rock it out without getting stuck even worse as I kept breaking through layers of snow/ice.

Here is my score for the winter:My QX4 gotten stuck: 2 times (once in the pic, and once on a frozen snow plow mound)My QX4 pulling out other cars/trucks: 5 times (van, car, heavy duty truck, truck, car)

I know it's abusive to the Q but hey, it can take it so far! I'll prolly end up putting in a new transmission and transfer case some day

Until then 124k miles and still chugging, 20k in the last 10 months...yow!

Thanks for looking, love the comments!

Eh, gravel road isn't much of a road. Guess I should have been specific, a PAVED road.

It's not hard to just break through ice and snow and get stuck and like you said, rocking only makes things worse.

Although a completely iced over paved road can be wicked fun, at least until you catch traction on some snow. And yes, for you ppl who don't know about driving on snow, you actually get more traction on snow than ice. Put a couple of dents in my mom's wagon learning that (turned legal age to drive in the middle of a horrid winter - every side street was 1" of ice!)

+1: If you put chains on the just the front tires of RWD vehicle, you can drift like no tomorrow!
