Post

Hey everyone, haven't posted here much in the last few months but I promised pics of my truck in a previous thread.

I ended up spending about $3,200 on all the upgrades. Since I shopped it and waited for good deals I was able to do it for a lot cheaper. Here is the list with retail prices:

Rims & Tires (33"): $1,000
2008+ new style mirrors (heated, power, w/blinkers and marker lights): $1,800
New style front end (headlights, grill, bumper): $1,000
Paint for handles, mirrors, and front bumper piece: $650
New nerf bars (powdercoated): $600.00
Recon smoked LED cab lights: $85
Recon smoked tail lights: $285
Recon smoked LED 3rd brake light: $85
Recon smoked LED mirror lights: $120
Custom built & powdercoated brush guard (front bar): $250
KC HID driving lights (2): $1,200
230 watt halogen driving lights (2 center): $100

Total: $7,825

You're probably wondering why in hell I would spend that much money on an old truck with 300,000 miles. Well. . . for all of the above I ended up spending about $3,200. I had a good reason for doing everything I did. In my rim/tire business I ran into this new setup for only $250 so I slapped them on there. Both the mirrors were broken and about to fall off. One of the tail lights was melted inside and couldn't be repaired. The 3rd brake light was also melted and didn't work. For the new front end the only thing I had to pay for was the paint on the front piece. In trade for the new bumper, headlights, grill I had to work my a** off for 2 days. It came off a wrecked truck which was owned by an uncle of mine. The old headlights were so fogged they couldn't be buffed clean - it was almost impossible to see anything while driving at night. The other nerf bars were bent and a friend of mine who is a manager at a Ford dealer in Phoenix gave me the nerf bars because the shop lost the mounting hardware. . . I already had the mounting hardware but I had to spend a few hours modifying it.

I spent a good 12 hours mounting the cab lights and wiring them in. I had to drill 5 massive holes in the roof and run the wiring to the markers. It took me about 12 more hours to correctly wire the new mirrors to fit my stock switch. I added a switch for the heat and wired the corner blinkers and markers into my stock markers. While I was at it I ran the wires for the front driving lights which was a real b****. I got some nice switches inside the cab to run them. Another think I did was plumbed my 100 gallon transfer tank into my stock tank so I can go on long trips without stopping for fuel - that little project took me a full day even with access to all the nice tools and a lift. One other little mod I did was getting the windshield tinted with 50% tint. These Arizona summers are damn hot.

So after all that here are the finish pics:

Yes. At that time I got them (6 months ago) you could buy them over the counter at a dealer for $900 each. That's NOT painted.

Apparently prices in the mirror are larger than they appear.

I dig the result, though. Nice.

holy crap... for the price of those mirrors you could have bought a new 240sx... or at least paid for a couple weeks worth of gas for that truck.

300K and it's probably just getting broken in! How long do these trucks last? It has the 7.3 right?

And I'm diggin the brush guard and grill. The truck looks great as it's not lifted to douche status like all the ones around here.

I kinda like what you did in the front. The before brush bars looked ugly. The dark tinted tail lens are bit tacky IMO and, I'm not sure you want to draw comparisons with Nala. It's also kinda contradictory. Here you spend tons of money being visible from the front, and you go with cheap looking tints in the rear so people have a hard time seeing you brake?? I'd recommend go back to stock lens on the rear.

Are you planning on towing with that truck? The roof marker lights plus oversize mirrors seem a tad excessive unless you're planning to tow with it. Can't tell if there's a tow hitch from the pics.

I love the look except the mirrors are beyond rediculous, even if your towing. Even at $800....

Still, the truck looks tits bro!

The tail lights are Recon super bright LED's which are very visible. They are the best tail lights you can buy.

Towing is what I do with the truck. Pics:

A 3000 mile trip to Houston:

And this is my normal trailer when I do trips to Phoenix, Vegas, and other closer cities. It was before I got that front piece painted:

Image

And this was just a short trip I did. The GVW was just under 30,000 lbs. It about killed my poor truck:

Image

Of the 50,000 miles I've put on the truck since I've got it about 40,000 of them have been towing.

They might be fancy, but looking at the pictures, they look tinted and do not appear to put out much light, and they don't look as good as stock. Sorry. You asked for feedback.

Since you tow so much, I can totally understand the big mirrors.

Nice truck man, I don't dig all the visual "upgrades" but that's personal preference stuff.

Now it just needs a Cummins... :)

The "visual upgrades" wasn't exactly my goal but while I was replacing stuff I figured I might as well customize it how I like it. Which visual upgrade don't you like?

The mirrors are probably my least favorite. They would look better in black imo. I owned a trucking company and hauled oversized loads for years so I know the value of mirrors but those just don't look right on the truck. My next least would be the clear/amber bulbed turns up front. I like the half/half headlights, just would prefer amber lenses on the bottom instead of clear. Those are the two major things that stick out to me.

Personally I totally love the mirrors. It's the one that sets my truck apart from the dozens of others in the area. The pictures really don't do justice. I really don't like black plastic on my truck.

Who gives a f*** what anyone else thinks, as long as you like it thats what matters.

I like the mirrors because they match the rest of the truck for a luxury look. Many times auto manufactures cheap out and use plastic black mirrors....

Now on the power folding thing....?

You could have saved yourself $1798 and bought a can of primer and a can of white spray paint and gotten the same effect.

Nice rig... I kinda like the mirrors no matter what anyone else says. Every F350 7.3L I've driven has hauled balls. Any power upgrades? Most of the ones I've driven have had simple chips/programmers and exhaust and pulling a 25ft enclosed with a car, equipment, etc at 75mph they cruise like there wasn't even a trailer back there. They seem to want to creep up on 85+ pretty easily!!

Your next write-up should be how to fix broken mirror mounts with a can of primer and white spray paint. The paint for them cost about $250 but I had a professional shop do it. I find it funny how you crap on my truck by calling it rice and then suggest I use spray paint to paint the mirrors :nono:.

I built the truck for myself. If you guys like it it's just icing on the cake. :) The mirrors are not power folding. The power folding and power extending are about $200 a piece more. I bought the mirrors off eBay for $700 but I had to wait for a long time to find that kind of a deal.

Wow.. I fail at the interwebs today. Haha..

Nice setup... Edge stuff rocks. I'm guessing you are pushing a little black smoke. ;)
