I finally scanned some pics of my first car, my fully restored / customized 68 GranSport (Repo had asked about it some time ago). These were taken in '89 (I think). One was at the Phoenix Raceway Park (now called SpeedWorld) and the other was at the Buick/Olds/Pontiac Nationals. I have a few more I might scan and post someday for the hell of it.

Scary how fast 14 years goes by...

John - It's a Buick, AKA a GM A-body car. All the 68-72 Gm A-body cars were ALL nearly identical underneath: Skylark, GranSport, Special, Cutlass, 442, Tempest, GTO, Chevelle, etc.

So you have to scan more pics? You're telling me you didn't have a digital camera 14 years ago? :) Nice car btw. I really dig your engine bay.

LOL - No digi cam then (STILL no digi cam dammit!:D)

Best time was 14.9 @ 9x mph (can't remember). Not bad for a 4000 pound car with a (built) 350, 3.23's and an automatic.

i almost baught a gran national before i found the 240. this GN had ALOT of work done to the engine, had a diff. rear end, etc. needed tires, paint, small stuff like that. wanted 9k for it. we took it for a test drive and about lost it coming around some corners, and we barely were mashing on the gas. i've been in C5 vettes w/ the pedal to the floor, and i guarantee this was faster. it was insane. before he did this work, it ran 13.2 in the quarter. had 4 10"s in the trunk too, heh. but, dad said it was too much car for me, and yes, it was :(

It makes me physically ill to know you had such a sweet GS for a first car. You know what my first car was? A damned '83 Ford Escort that didn't even have a tape player.

I would love to have your first car even now as a second car. I could tell Buick stories all night long, but I'll spare you guys. Hehe. I guess I made up for driving an Escort when I started driving my dad's '87 Turbo T late my junior year and all senior year. I raced a guy on a VMax, lost, but he gave me props for being so quick, which was pretty cool.

Regarding Tino's "granny" comment, the Turbo Buick community has a vast knowledge base regarding turbos and turbo-related tuning. So, should anyone need help with such issues, I do have the hook-up.

;)

Skylark = identical to the Special and the GS.

I'll be building a "fake" GS from a Skylark convertible if I can find a cheap one with no rust.

Sweet. Now, when you do that, you need to use the TA Performance 528 Stroker kit and a Motec fuel mgmt system. Let me know when you decide to do this. I'll be interested to follow your progress.

The guy that started TA performance (Mike) is a buddy of mine, he lives here in Phx - He made my manifold and headers.

Have you seen his 12-second 350ci all-motor 4300-lb wheelstanding 68 Buick SportWagon? SICK.

NOOOO! I hate to hear things like that.

FYI - I sold the above car to a local kid (when my wife and I were first married and we were BROKE). He promptly nose-planted it into a telephone pole street racing. He kept it, and then he buys a house in my neighborhood. He has it parked in his garage, and I get a little teary every time I drive past his house. So many great memories in that car, and so much time/love put into the restoration.... :(
