Looks like this'll be awesome. Are you going to be using stock rods?

You should never leave your crank laying down on its side. It should be torqued into the block or standing up on its end. I just a good habit to get into, but either way good luck with the build and dont forget to clean out the block like crazy with plenty of atf (don't use any detergents or solvents, just soapy water then atf).

Looks good! Just remember to get the cams at least half way lined up before you put the head on as you don't want to have any of the valves hitting the pistons. Hard to tell but it looks like the exhaust cams for No. 1 and 4 may be open enuff to make contact if you'll have No.1 at TDC. Should be a fun weekend - just be patient and check everything twice and then check it again!

i degreased the whole block with engine degreaser and rinsed it throughly for 10 mins straight. i then wiped down all the important surfaces with denatured alchol before rusting began. i had a fan blowing the whole thing dry and it was completely dry in 5 mins. then i gave everything a nice coat of wd40, so shes sitting purdy right now. and my crank is standing up like how i wake up. dontbugme, thanks for the heads up on the cam dilemma. ill def make sure to watch out for that.

if you really want to see how clean your block is put atf on some toilet paper and wipe down a bore. if it comes out any color other than atf you are not clean enough and should use the atf to wipe down the block. most detergents and solvents will push the dirt into the crosshatch of the hone which is why soapy water should usually be your only option followed by atf. a machine shop owner who has built high end motors for about 30 years or so taught me that trick.
