I just posted pics of me autcrossing my Q back in 1999 while living and freezing my arse off in NJ. I am so happy to be back in Florida where I grew up. Bikinni season year round :)

After I get all the mods done...you can bet ya that I will be out there tearing things up again. Have not done it in over 3 years...got to find a SCCA club down here. Should be easy enough

Interesting the roll is not nearly as bad as I would assume given the lack of massive sway bars and stiff springs.

I like the sunroof open to clear the helmet.

yeah....when you are 6'4" you kind of need that sunroof with a helmet on. It was a real blast auto x it, but I felt after about 4 separate runs that the car is way to heavy and that I would have to hold off until I got another car or modified this one. I never thought that I would be modifying this one so I will be certainly back out there on the track again and I need to get my certification renewed. I use to race my 1986 accord out there and had a blast...way too much understeer, but I ragged the crap out of that thing until everything died except for the engine and transmission which for some reason still kept going strong. One time the brakes overheated on a corner and I could not keep it in line and hit a fence post sticking up....just pushed in the bumper about 3" and ripped out the headlight...but still had fun at the accord was my second car at the time with 188K miles on it. It was my "i don't give a sh....t" car.

RSI, Thanks for posting those pictures. I love the see the Q in action. Can't wait to do some autoxing/tracking myself...

That was with a stock suspension right? So now you will have swaybars/blues/lowering springs/bigger tires.... better brakes, more power... you should be able to reduce your time fairly significantly... I never asked, what have you done or are planning to do to your Q, in terms of suspension..

suspension???? I have the 1995 touring model so some things are half way there, but here is a list

eibachstoicko bluesstillen camber adjustments20mm rear sway bar with spacers/washers added in bushings90-93 steering rackall new bushings and rubber thingys18" wheels

and who knows what else will pop up and hopefully it will all work together nicely without too much trial and error. Hopefully this weekend it will be all done...waiting on wheels to arrive at local shop....slow pokes working there.

yes, that was stock. Everyone about flipped when I pulled up and said I was crazy for autocrossing such a heavy car. Who says you can't autocross this heavy weight contender...heck, we even had a guy come out in a Yugo every weekend and raced that thing

Just about every car you can imagine I've seen autox at our local auto crosses. They don't care as long as the fee is paid. Nice pics though.

It looks mean in the pics! Like some kind of VIP evasive maneuver protection training video.

;)

One of the top young autoxers in Florida, Ian Stewart, used to whoop arse on a regular basis here at Lockheed Martin in a stock Volvo 244.

hey Heavy....maybe I can make it up there sometime this summer during an auto x event and we can both hit the track together and have some fun burning up a couple $100 worth of tires.

Oh hell yeah, please do! I'm not very good (never get a chance to go) but a couple of the fellas from the shop go regularly & keep me updated on when the horsepower events (long track) are coming.

I used to take my 91 SE-R out occasionally. Now when the GTI-R swap is complete......watch out!

Awesome pics. I'm thinking pretty much what you are in terms of suspension, but don't forget a Front Strut Tower Brace. That should help significantly.

Cool pics. Looks like it was a handful, but lots of fun. I've never taken my Q on a closed course like that, just a bunch of twisty roads by my other house in the Poconos. What part of Jersey were you from? I live in Ridgefield now, but I grew up, and still work in West New York. I see you went to Miami so I was thinking you might be part of the Cuban Union City, Miami connection. It seems like every Cuban from Hudson County know someone in Miami.

Cuban???? LOL!! I am 100% gringo and actually a combo of 50% polish & 50% scottish. Sorry, the only Cuban & Latin connection I have is through the women down here or the company I work for. I grew up in Florida and after college thought I would try living up North for a change. Ugghhh...Big Mistake as I did not like it at all. Way too cold. I lived in Princeton, NJ for 3 years while up there. Nice town, but not much tail to chase for a mid 20's bachelor. The NJ shore was fun, but not like what I was use to.

I forgot to mention that I had the FTSB already on the car and I really like it a lot. I bought the Stillen one about a month ago before I knew that BRM was making one.

I bought my 93 to an autox school I instructed at several years ago and did a few laps on the course with it. The biggest problem I had was the transmission. The inability to prompt a downshift to 1st at anything over ~30mph was very irratating. It was constantly in the wrong gear, which is why you usually don't see automatic transmissions on racecars. With stock suspension it understeered relentlessly, although that's not uncommon. Driving 10/10ths at low speed around relatively tight corners is a formula for understeer with most cars.

Ahhh EWT....you bring back my #1 frustration trying to autocross my Q..."it would not down shift into 1st @ 30mph". I also was very frustrated as I would come out of a soft corner and then punch it only to have it stuck in 2nd with me sitting there doing the flintstones and foot pedalling the big Q beast. heck I could have lighted a cig if I ever smoked while I was trying to accelerate until the next turn came up. It drove me nuts. Hopefully with the new JWT ECU/TCU and LevelTen transmission I will not have to worry abou this anymore. Moving the redline mark up should hopefully also move the downshifting points upward so that @ 30 I can get it to go into 1st.

RSI,

All you gotta do is use the handy manu matic, and rip the beast into 1st :) Be prepared for some oversteer...
