Chicks usually dig ricers and there aren't many ricers here. Girls like neon and matching interiors not titanium downpies and strut bars;)

i like any fun car. i like performance over appearence. it's kind of like defensive pessimism. if you expect less of something, you will be really surprised if it gives you more. i have a friend who has a friend with a riced out civic with a wing and body kit and rims and a flame decal. when we got in for him to drive us somewhere, i was expecting the car to be like a roller coaster, but i was sadly mistaken. i don't know if it was the guy's driving or just the car being ****ty, but the ride wasn't fun at all, and i was very dissapointed.

i used to drive a 91 318i that i bought from a friend after he turned it into an m3. i'm no mechanic, but it doesn't take one to notice that the car was no regular 318i. but the point is, the 91 318i is pretty damn ugly. it's so ugly that people would probably stop and look at it just to see how ugly it was. it wasn't rusting or dirty, it just had an ugly body. i loved it though, and it was an amazing ride.

unfortunately, you are the exception. Not many women are into auto mechanics, but prefer a car that looks good. My girlfriend likes my car, but she doesn't care about how it goes, she just cares that it goes and has a convertible top.

I wish auto mechanics was a more bi-gender subject, but it is unfortunately very lop sided towards males. most of my most meaningful conversations have come from women, and it's a shame i don't know any that understand auto mechanics, because that's over 60% of what I talk about right now

EDIT: The whole subject of women and mechanics makes me think of the WyoTech commercial where the girl comes up to some of her friends and shows them a picture of a hot rodded truck and neither of them even bother asking her if she worked on it, they just ask "where'd you see that at?". It's an unfortunate sociatal pattern

:WerdI completely agree with you :).. seriously, if I had the money and time, I'd take up automechanics just to be able to be more self-sufficient in this area...

but for now.. google and howstuffworks.com are my bestfriends :pface

hmmm...... I simply wanted some pics of some models and a 240sx...... seems it turned into a rice commentary once again. I have this to say though. If you like your car to have style, i think you should have every right to...I personally am a "go" over show guy, but i would never beef up a car and keep it looking stock. Wheres the fun of designing your project car then? Its fun to take a car, and turn it into a visual/mechanical enchantment. I mean i wouldnt go and put silvia/turbo/nitros stickers all over it(thats rice)! Anyways all i wanted when i started this thread is to see some T and A !!!!!!!!!!!! oh and a 240 here and there..LOL LOL

A couple books you'd be interested in. They're not auto mechanics books, but they focus in the areas of understanding and tuning their respective functions.

High Performance Handling and Maximum Boost.

Two of the best books I have ever bought and read. Very in depth. The only downside is the Turbo book is a bit out of date. It was released in the mid 90s, so it doesn't mention some of the newer advancements in turbo technology, but the basics haven't changed.

The sleeper look. It's much fun. I am, however doing a JDM conversion to my car, which is considered rice by many, but I'm doing it for personal reasons beyond "it looks good". I like the sleeper look, so I intend to keep my silvia front stock looking. Nothing is better than to see the jaw drop on a V8 driver as I blow past him.

My car has the ugliest most messed up rear bumper ever but doesn't bother me. Saving up for the SR swap because if a car looks nice, but doesn't go anywhere, what's the use? Even with girls, no one wants a good looking girl that doesn't have a personality... at least to keep around... :P i have no pics because i have no girl to take a pic of my car with. ;[

My girlfriend refuses to take pics with my cars. She says she doesn't wanna look like some ho at a NOPI meet.
