My best recommendation is to have a mechanic look at it very, very carefully, down to checking the compression. The $75 will be well spent!
I used to be a serious cyclist (the kind you pedal) and would spend $2-3K on an excellent road bike then turn around and sell it. Many of my friends would sell there's and in the ad would say such things as never been crashed or laid down, clean, well kept, beautiful, etc. What they wouldn't tell you, of course, is that the components had been destroyed thru racing and within months you'd have to replace it at a cost of >$1-1.5K. The components are rarely checked by new buyers, especially when they smell a high end bike that looks beautiful and goes for a few 100. G's are often heavily used and driven very hard by many (just read the number of posts by guys who weekend race and then return to their church and business life afterwards), and the damage can't be seen or noticed on a brief 30 minute jaunt into the world, irrespective of the speed you take it to.
One thing's for sure, if it has been modded and it looks like the mods were removed--- caveat emptor-- let the buyer beware!
Good luck and hope this helps.
