So I was searching around for a nice folder to buy for a birthday gift for myself. Came across this little beauty on Amazon.

Ran me $24 even with next day shipping. Gotta love Amazon Prime :woot:

Nice, is there a pocket clip on the back side? It one of the photos it doesn't look like it's sitting flat and I figured that's what might be sit at an angle.

I found myself wanting something more than just my standard Swiss Army at so I picked up the Bear Grylls folding sheath knife a while back when I found it on sale. It seems to be just an updated (and more colourful) version of Gerber's old Gator.

Image

Apparently it's the best one of Gerber's Bear Grylls lineup (maybe because it's based on an tested Gerber design), the others have some quality issues, especially the "ultimate survival knife".

I really want a good knife...I've been thinking about picking up an Emerson one of these days, but damn are they pricey.

I have the folding version of the gerber BG knife, got it as a groomsman gift. Its not too bad, haven't used it yet. I am partial to Kershaw knives specifically the ones with thumb assisted opening. They hold their edge and the thumb assist means no fumbling on opening.

Cant see it in this pic but at the top of the blade it has a ridged section

I always like a having a knife with me, even when I'm in a coat & tie. Never know when you'll need a knife for something and the only one I ever found that actually look ok with a suit is Kershaw's Ken Onion Chive. Only Kershaw I've got but it's a nice little knife and it tucks about anywhere.

It has a pocket clip on the back side. It's the Smith & Wesson Border Guard 2 and includes window punch and seatblet cutter. It is HUGE for a folder but I dig it.

The Kershaw KO is a great knife and is barely legal here in the Socialist Republic of California because of the way it opens.

:lolling: I believe it...and it's such a huge blade, could almost take someone's head off with it. Damned Kali. :tisk:

Wonder what they would think about the way the Emerson's open. ;)

I <3 my Kershaw Blur.

it's faster than any switchblade and doesn't have a safety to fumble with.

it rides in my pocket everywhere and stays sharp enough to shave with.

I've actually considered going out and picking this one up. You're about as close I am I think, just in case you're interested. ;)

Hey man! I didn't do nuthin'...don't point that at me! :)

I finally picked up the Emerson I've been looking at for such a long time...

Image

And it's solid, just look at how beefy the blade is...

Image
(Boy, that's one ugly hangnail!)

It's a CQC-7 with a chisel grind. The chisel grind makes some people steer clear for some reason, nothing I've used it on really complained about it though. ;)

I've seen plenty of knives where there was an obvious effort made to have the looks cover for the lack of durability and functionality but that's not the case with Emerson. Every knife feels solid and though they won't win a beauty contest that's ok...that's not what it's made for. Don't get me wrong, it's not an ugly knife by any means, I think of it the way I think of the A-10 airplane (and most other things as a matter of fact), form follows function. The Emerson wave feature works just like it should and it took me no time at all to draw and deploy the blade in one smooth and swift motion. I'm usually not a fan of pocket clips for a couple of reasons. The first is that they are too loose and don't really hold the knife where you want to keep it and the second is that they make for an uncomfortable grip. Neither is the case with the Emerson I picked up.

And Mike, just in case you're wondering what's in the bottle & glass...

Nice. I usually go for the younger stuff. I pulled the smoke monster out last night myself. Depending on how much cash I get for the scrap run tomorrow I might check my local liquor store for something new. I doubt we can get the new triple wood over here, though.

Looking up that Oban, it seems it has a little bit of peat smoke going on. What's it like? I normally don't really enjoy Highlands. I'm hooked on the islands, Islay and Skye, and enjoy some Speysides, but haven't found a Highland to call my own yet.
