Last month we picked up an 08 G35x with 71k miles from local Nissan dealer, of course it was just out of warranty but they assured us the car was fully inspected and they just replaced all brakes/rotors and did a tune up.

Now a month later and with 73k miles it just died while driving and we had it towed to Infiniti dealership and they're stating engine seized and $8000 to replace with used engine. The dealership stated the oil looks at least 6-9 months old, battery failed test and rotors are worn (we've been noticing vibration and even asked when purchasing). the 2 dealerships are separate but from the same company. We just got finished talking to both dealers and they want to see if Infinity (corporation) will go a good faith warranty repair because its so close, but it seems like we're being screwed and they're not willing to help. Just wondering your suggestions, we're not going to pay that dealership to do the repairs at full price and will rather pay another dealership more to repair or an independent shop.

Also this is Germain Nissan and Germain Infiniti here in Columbus, Ohio. Germain owns about 60% of all dealerships in central ohio and this is their 1st Infiniti that just opened a few months ago.

How could a engine blow? I would want to know how they came to that conclusion. Do they have proof that the engine is blown? Have you considerd getting a second opinion on why the car does not run?

Well if a siezed engine is indeed the case, that would really be unfortunate.

If the first dealership gave it a tune up and an oil change, it seems a bit unlikely as the VQ35 engine is regarded to be pretty much bulletproof.

Did the second dealership drain the oil? Can you ask how much was in there? It should be close to 5qts at full capacity. If you had far less than that, you might have been in the danger zone. Some VQ35HR engines have an oil consumption issue, so if this particular engine was an especially oil hungery version that might also have been the reason.

There almost certainly would have been warning signs though, usually engines start to act funny when low on oil, I've been told it's hard to describe, but it's far from the "normal" feel. Also the low oil pressure light should have come on.

I don't know, I'd do some more digging, either way, it sounds like some one lied to you. Although, I personally would have checked the oil fairly often in the beginning just to make sure everything seemed right.

Good luck,
Lars

Am I understanding correctly that you purchased a used vehicle and never looked under the hood prior to making the purchase. You never pulled up the dip stick to check the oil either prior to purchase or after.
Most purchasers of a used vehicle will immediately change the oil and do some routine maintenance.
My guess is that neither you or the previous owner never bothered.

Oh! Welcome to NICO

Good luck
