errrr? haha I dont think it's supposed to bend that way... my machine shop guy said that the engine most likely hydrolocked and the rod just said goodnight. The stock rods do look reletavly beefy though. Despite the fact that this one is bent, I'm definetly a little bit reassured about my decision to keep the stock rods. Even the shop commented on how they're pretty nice for a stock conrod.

Anyways, my question: I was under the impression that this engine that I'm tearing apart is a 1997, although I admit that the whole time I did sortof have my doubts about it. Now, looking at that rod there you see the numbers "93" pretty clearly stamped there... anyone here know if that is supposed to be the manufacture date of the rod, year of the engine or anything? It might just be some sort of stock number or whatever but I'd just like to check to see if anyone knows.

Oh, and the bent rod was no big deal... I got a factory remanned one for 40 bucks in perfect shape :D

LMAO...seriously though, was that rod in the engine your rebuilding? Was there any bearing damage? I just want to know why she took a crap. The stock rods are beefy enough to handle most any stress not exceeding say 7400 or so rpm. So long as the lbearings stay lubed and whatnot. I've never seen a rod bend like that, I've seen a couple snap in half though.

The stock rods are forged factory units and are very nicely beefed up. To make the even stronger--use ARP rod bolts. I dont have the part numebr handy, but they are for the l20 block, and 11/32's and 24 pitch, black nitride i beleive.Kyle hooked me up with that info--even the idiot at teh phone didnt kow what part to get me at ARP.

WD: haha yeah this is from the engine I'm rebuilding. There might have been some bearing damage (not that I know of), but it doesnt really matter since I'm replacing the bearings anyways. The machinist said that the rod was tapping the counterweight on the crank a little, and also rubbed slightly on the bottom portion of the cylinder... none of it is major though, since the cyl is getting bored and the crank is getting polished and balanced. Seriously, guess that explains the "slight tapping noise" the guy who had the engine before was talking about...

Projex: actually I am using the ARP rod bolts... the machine shop has em ready to go.

i seriously doubt the "93" has anything to do with the year of the engine. even so, all years of the ka24de use the same connecting rod.

That stamping was either simply the casting date or a revision date. It simply means that was an off-the-shelf factory part. It could appear in any year of car after 93.
