I currently have the silverstars in my J and dont really like the color they put out. They are sort of white but they still look like halogen. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any input on whether the piaa 9000 series bulbs are any brighter/whiter. I wouldnt mind it to have a little bit of a blue/purple look like the color of the xenon HIDs. If anyone here as tested these side by side or prefers one of the other please let me know.

Bluer does not mean brighter - merely a shift in the color temperature. Might do a search here for some previous posts containing good links to the web on this topic for additional information.

Any colored filter coating on a bulbs will decrease the real light ouput in lumens....... actually the human eye is most sensitive to a range {slightly yellowish light thru green to slightly bluish green]http://home.wanadoo.nl/paulschils/05.01 ... 01.01.html

why not? I was looking at hella ballasts or phillips ballasts on ebay for around 220-250. Then i will need the HID D2S phillips bulbs. Wouldnt that work?

The focus and cutoff [beam shaping] points of oem conventional lenses/reflectors are not suitable for use with HIDs.

Worse are those that are right hand drive adapted to US cars.

well this site here deals with that problem....i think the same could be done for the J. http://www.geocities.com/jvxdr...n.htm Just adding some washers will move the focal point of the HID bulb to the point of the regular halogen bulb.

How do they deal with the need to redesign the lens to meet federal standards for automobile headlights .........avoid blinding on coming drivers by reshaping the extra light energy.

But impressed that somebody figured out the first part of the problem.

Heard [just a rumor] some Grampas have a homemade silencer 22 pistols that readjusts improper illegal HID headlights from the opposite lane.

So are Silverstars any brighter? Im not much into color as I am into wide-angle visibility.

yea...i took one of my old halogen and put it back in on one side and left the silver star on the other side. It makes hell of a difference. The silverstars are brighter, whiter, and i think they shine a little bit further.

Q45tech, why would you need to redisgn the headlight lens? The kid on that site apparently bought a set of projector fogs and then installed a D2S HID bulb in it by using the washers to move the focal point and it looks pretty sharp to me. It has a sharp cutoff and the pics look as they the light up correctly.

I would wonder if i would need to modify the reflective behind the lens?

oh well...it would still look cool...im not too worried about blinding other people. I see em all the time and have never once noticed extra glare...to me the look focused more directly in front and not in oncoming traffics eyes at all.

well as long as the focal point is lined up, it will be ok in a projector housing as on the J30. yeah, the beam will be a little wide, but it wont blind people much more than usual.

the problems really arise when kids put HID kits in improperly-designed reflector housings.

I don't think there are "KIDS" out there who are driving around in J30s.

A lot of kids in Civics and such who cannot install nor aim them correctly, though. Yet to be blinded by a J.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t

I don't know...I almost bought one. I'm 17, and my first car is a 95 G20t.
