According to the FSM, the Non HICAS S13 has a steering ratio of 17.0:1 (3.1 turns lock to lock) while the HICAS steering rack has a 14.9:1 ratio (2.5 turns lock to lock).

Aside from those differences, does anybody know if there are any physical differences between the two? The reason I ask is because I am buying one from a member on this forum, and I want to see if I can tell the difference before installing the new rack.

Some on a few searches have said the serial numbers are difference on the steering racks, but it wasn't clear on what serial numbers he was talking about or what he was trying to compare.

If anybody can get back to me, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

Well, if the ratio is changing, the distance between the center of the pinion to the rack gear should have to change, so try to get that info from him.

Otherwise, ask the guy to pull the rack and turn the pinion one revolution and see how far it travels. Measure yours and compare.
