So now, journalists are being targeted with actions that endangers their freedom to report!

For a supposedly "liberal" POTUS, Obama is sure turning out to be more authoritarian and dictatorial than what Democrats accuse Republican Presidents of having done in the past.

Journalists should come out swinging and start ghosting every politician involved, full on paparazzi assault! I don't care if you are the most partisan hack who is my antithesis on every issue, this is a pivotal line to cross and a fire break must be laid down. The freedom of the press is as important as the right to bear arms IMO. We the people will do the checking on these journalists, government, not you. You worry about hiding your own sins from the rest of us, scumbags.

This plays to the larger, more troublesome issue of rampant wiretapping and data storage. At this point, literally every mainstream form of communication is being stored within a huge collection of databases. Algorithms are in place to match patterns of behavior, dangerous phrases, etc. Along with the small amount of real-time filtering for any potentially illegal activity, your communications can be searched at a later date and used against you (perhaps not in court, but at least in an investigation).

Obama does not want to grease up the slippery slope of holding Presidents to any sort of legal standard... Not saying that's right, but that's just what's going on. Smells like... Nixon...
