I'm surprised this isn't already a thread.

Last year Speedworld ownership culminated a pissing match with AZ State gov resulting in the closure of the track.
Last year Firebird did not renew its land lease with the Indian Tribe whose land it had built its track on.

This month the tribe opened its own race park using the Firebirds infrastucture. I missed the opening run what ya brung racing but will not make that mistake twice!

Nice to see the track reopened albeit under different ownership. Fancy website, but I chuckled to find how difficult it was to bring up information about the track itself.

I don't believe Firebird's woes ever made national news, but then again state/local governments squabbling with race tracks is kinda common. For example, I'm guessing news about the ongoing fighting with NJ Motorsports Park in Millville NJ hasn't hit your part of the country either.

I'm sure he just meant because Greg or the other AZ nuts hadn't posted it yet...

I personally believe that everyone should have a track within an hour ride, maximum. They closed all ours except for what's up north of us...

If you expand your hour requirement by just 30 minutes, you have Summit Point Raceway (maybe 90 minutes west from you), which has 3 separate road race tracks.

The only way to get there takes you through the worst traffic area in the region. But I'm not trying to steal this thread...

Having an issue with adding some driving time (due to traffic near home) to get a nearby racetrack to have fun driving seems akin to avoiding going to the gym/healthclub because of a potentially long walk from the parking lot to the door.

Which is why I look the way I do. The bike is in the garage the stationary bike is in the office and the free weights are in my bedroom. Still too far away from the couch. :rotfl

I like my track to be close to my house so I don't have to change tires when I get there. Firebird by any name is an hour from my house in Avondale and even farther from Greg in Surprise. I don't have drag radials for my Jag cause they don't make them in a size that doesn't cause it to go into limp mode so it doesn't matter.

I had not heard about the NJ motor park issues. Speedworld got in trouble (and this is my understanding) for buying the land around them and making un-approved improvements and un-approved buildings. Then when the state said um hey do you have a license for that they doubled down and said oh it was like that when I bought it. Then the state showed them satelite images of the land being improved and they still said "it wasn't me".

Firebird was built on Indian Reservation land that was leased and the tribe or Firebird decided to not renew the lease.

It will be nice to have somewhere to do this
