He says that due to his declining health, he is going to retire. He's 60 years old and has sold over 150 million albums. I'd say he's justified.

Very telling words. The music world has slid a long way since his glory days.

Being a big Miami Vice fan, of course I am a fan of Phil Collins. Started when he was with Genesis. Although his acting on Vice was forgettable, his music will be remembered.

Phil Collins rocks! 2 albums get regular rotation on my hard drive. Helluva successful artist too. I remember a classic rock station playing ever #1 hit by the decade by the artist. Genesis had SO FREGGIN' MANY! They were on for what felt like days. Then they got to his solo act. Hes the man- read his biography sometime, thats a good book. I would have loved to see him live; my mom was lucky enough to get to see him 2-3 times.

I liked his work too, but I thought he had retired a few years ago, when his back was giving him problems.

I didn't know Phil was still around. I haven't heard any new stuff from him in a while.

I may be one of the few in this thread, but while he was a very talented song writer and singer, I respect him most for his contributions to drumming.

It was sad reading the article about him retiring from drumming as he can no longer play due to complications from some surgeries he had (I'm guessing for his back). I was hoping he'd still do music to some extent, but I totally understand his reasoning. TRUE music hardly gets the recognition it deserves these days. Seems anyone with a microphone and an iMac can win a grammy these days.

Here's some crazy old PC with Peter Gabriel during the Genesis years, my favorite stuff. PC wrote this track BTW.

Count me in with you. I started drumming at age 10 and he was one of my earliest and biggest influences. Most of my friends were "Lars Ulrich" this and "Neil Peart" that. While those two were later influences, my first were Phil Collins, Bill Ward, Don Henley, Charlie Watts and Carl Palmer.
