Last night I was driving home and blew a head gasket, then the top of the radiator cracked and after barely making it to my girlfriend's house I had to bring the trailer in to get it home. I have had enough with this, it's going to nickle and dime me to death, so I have been looking for remanufactured KA's.

I am considering Jasper, but then I found Phat KA-T and the engine they are offering. Here is the link: http://www.phatka-t.com/engineparts.htm.

I wanted to know if anyone has dealt with this company, or heard any stories about them. From the list of parts does this look like a good setup (I understand the things like 3 angle valve job...but am lost when it comes to things being magnafluxed and micropolished and all that). From their project cars they look like they know what they're doing. I am going to go KA-T after I start my first semester in the fall, so I figure this will be a good choice. Thanks for anything.

If you could afford it, then I say go for it. The built engine has proven itself, so why not, especially if you're going to turbo it.

did you look?

its a lot more than pistons, its everything the motor needs to be bulletproof

just throw a nice turbo on there and tune it and youll have a nice 4 or 500 hp car that you dont have to worry about

Think he said it would cost like 12-13k for your car to be the same as the twins. But it will be all installed.Prices may have changed. He builds a very solid motor and I want one.

That build is very comprehensive. You could skimp on some of it if you wanted though to save a lot of money.

the only problem is he shotpeens stock rods on the $3500 block, this would only be a problem if you wanted to get into the 500hp mark, but he himself proved the stock rods start to warp around there.... so id say get the rod upgrade if you really wanted a built motor

I called Ivan today and we had a pretty long conversation.

He asked what I was shooting for and I told him low to mid 400hp and he explained everything to me - from why I should opt for the ARP studs to why I should go with the pauter rods. He told me a lot about the twin's car, and that they have numerous KA-T's running around with 400+ hp on a daily basis. Definately don't hesitate to call them, because the customer service is great.

Now I have a big decision to make...

Going into my first year of college, all my money was going to go toward school so I know I will be financially stable while Im still a student. Out of that $7k, I could take about $4k out and pick up one of their engines - but what if I need it down the road? A couple hundred on a radiator and head gasket, or a couple grand on a whole new bulletproof engine that in 2 years I can boost and make some crazy numbers?

I hate decisions.

i was once in ur shoes not too long ago and i can say that books should come first. If ur fortunate to get scholarships, let the scholarship money (after all school expenses have been paid) and ur job on the side cover car stuff. Remember that the engine by itself is 4K. So unless u already have a turbo, fuel system, mani and IC stuff, ur looking at at least another 1K pending on which mani u go with.

Phat-KAT does really good work and their customer service is top notch. They are one of the few shops that i know of that i probably wouldnt mind dropping my car off at. Obviously as u can see by the costs, ur wallet has to be kinda deep for them to do all the stuff to your car or to get a built engine and their turbo kit. but ya, i can testify to back up funds always being a good thing to have

yeah dude, books should come first... my first semester wasn't too bad on book prices; say around $300... but man did my second semester hit me hard w/ around $500 spent on my darn books... so, if I were you (and I'm not) I'd opt for just fixing what needs to get fixed for now... and keep your money saved for when some other things come up (i.e. something else needs fixed like your radiator, starter, etc...) and you'll have some money left over to do things w/ friends that you meet at college and go on some trips which can sometimes be once-in-a-lifetime deals

Well whatever cash you put into the car, is never comming back. Things depreciate and there's always some new hotness on the horizon.

The one thing that will pay for itself is edumacation. While it's a kick to the groin to begin with, it pays in the long run. Grin and bear it until you get that pimp job... imo

Who knows by that time the Skyline will be in the US and the 240 will be a distant thought.

They are a very good company. You need an education first. If I was you I would find a reliable daily driver and store the 240. You can find a motor and build it yourself and keep adding parts down the road. You can also find another stock motor and put it in for a few hundred.

For some reason whatever $$$ I put into the car it get's multiplied.Because I have offers to buy my cars which is more than I have into it, but I'm hoarding them.Because I don't know what I would do if I saw it crashed.
