Just wanted to pose a question here. I'm afraid I might be losing my marbles.

I know that the 90-93 Q's didn't have heated seats. Sometimes while driving, I get a warm sensation in my lumbar area, as well as the seat. I ignored it until a passenger commented on it from the passenger seat.

Has anyone else had that same experience and just brushed it off?

I know it's not attributed to sunlight and the Greenhouse Effect because it's happened on cold gray days as well as at night. It's an infrequent occurrence, but it came to mind just now.

A small nagging thought that's been bringing itself up lately is the seat motors. They don't usually have overheating problems right? Especially if they're not in motion. The driver's seat does the most moving (back and forth upon entering and exiting). Much more than the passenger seat.

He might have some Spirit trying to rub on you guys. Joke Only. It is the same sensation you probably get from your body heat sitting on a sofa.

I had considered that. But what gets my goat is that it's infrequent.

I never have experienced that before. I would have appreciated it during the colder days of winter though.

Its just the satisfaction of owning one of the finest cars ever put together. I get a warm feeling too. Yours maybe just located to a different area. On the other hand I get a cold feeling riding in other cars

Jonsey.........

If the warm feeling appears in your lap, may I suggest more potty breaks

Check your drawers, you might be the culprit.

So you get your period in your lumbar area Briana? Wow.

Not I Drew. I've got a long way to go before incontinence. Some of the othr board members may have beat me to it.

Thanks, but I fail to see how nocturnal emissions have any bearing on the surface of my seat being warm.

I think its because the Q's leather doesn't breathe well.

So the feeling I'm getting is coming from the leather trying to breathe?

Yes, you should obtain a canister of oxygen and release it into a closed car interior at least every 90 days or 3750 miles to obtain best results and life of your leather. If you use synthetic oxygen, may be safe to do it every 6 months or 7500 miles?

Part of me believes you and the other part thinks you're yanking my chain. Synthetic oxygen?

I've never heard of oxygen treatments as part of an interior care regimen.

Just messing with you! We do have a few oxygen bars here in Baltimore though, people sit at the bar and inhale pure 02 for an hour or so for a few bucks.

Best thing you can do to preserve leather and vinyl in your car is to tint windows, use a windshield sunshade DAILY, and treat with 303 aerospace protectant {sunscreen for vinyl/leather}

Aw. You got me.

Thanks for the tips. I'm afraid my leather is a bit far gone. The rear is immaculate, but the driver and passenger seats are cracked and whatnot. I'm going to have to get them reupholstered. Or just swap in new seats. I haven't been able to find light gray 90-93 seats.

See? Here's a picture.

Since the Q's leather is coated with stuff from the factory, its not very pliable. Its great for keeping contaminants out, but it also makes it stiff.

The heat of your body against leather that can't breathe means you sweat. Its like sitting on vinyl, but not nearly as bad. This summer I think I'm going to miss the Lincoln's air conditioned seats.

Grrr. So the only way to remedy the hard, brittle leather is to get it redone?

You can go over it with gentle sandpaper and redye it. I've never done it myself, but thats what some upholstery shops do if the leather is recoverable. This penetrates the hard surface and exposes the skin. The downside is that the leather then becomes more vulnerable to wear and sunlight; but it also becomes more receptive to conditioners and cleaners. So it may, as a result, last longer with regular care.

If its beyond rehabilitation, you're stuck with having the damaged sections of leather replaced with new material. Fortunately, tan is easy to match. Not sure what color yours is.

It's a light gray. My interior is two-tone black and gray. Black dash and doors with light gray panels, carpeting, headliner, and seats.
