I have always been drawn to the J30 since I first saw one back when they were brand new, I don't see many cars that I think are beautiful but the J30 is the one that still does it for me. I had to wait ten years to feel I could afford one. What a pleasure to find that it is such a good driving car too!Since I plan to keep it as long as I can, I'm sure I am going to need the help of this forum, and if I find any good information or answers, to contribute as well.At the moment, everthing works!

Welcome PeterV (soundsl like a radio DJ name). Tell us some more about your J30. We'll help you keep from having problems instead of fixing them.

My J30 has 135,000 km which is about 84,000 miles and most of it qute literally by a "little old lady" - not quite but by an older sounding woman. I talked to her on the phone as the dealer I bought it from had all of the Infiniti service and other bills she had paid over the years. They account for all but a year of the car's history, the woman she sold it to traded it in on a Toyota Sienna as she was about to have twins [at least that's the story].I could give a list of all the work she had done to it, if anyone is interested. Outside of maintenance there are various control items like the headlight control unit, power antenna, etc. The timing belt has been done on schedule.

The car is a dark blue-grey colour with a spoiler, which I thought has always been aptly named for its affect on the appearance, but the car is not a 't' model. I was thinking about having it removed but I'm getting used to it. I'm suprised to hear that it might actually be functional.

Rather than go on and on, I'd be pleased to answer any questions anyone has about it. Thanks for the welcome.

Sounds nice. I don't see many of that color which I like very much. Reminds me of the color of those rare Dobermans that are a blue-grey color. The timing belt was what I was most interested in, but you already nailed that one. Sounds like you got it together pretty well. All I can suggest now is proper fluid maintenance. And I mean all of them! Do some searches on fluids on you'll find MANY responses and opinions (in the Infiniti section that is) Also search for transmissions and read up on all the pan drop/flush procedures to keep it going strong for as long as possible.

I was in to the dealer to get another key fob and I saw their transmission flush advertisement with the bad stuff looking like cabernet and after flush looking like light cranberry juice. I take it that is what you are referring to, is the dealer the best place / best fluids place to go for it?

Not neccessarily, since many dealers dont offer it, but if yours does, and has a special on it, go for it.

It never hurts to get to know those guys a bit.

Also <be sure> to have them do a pan drop w/ filter exchange in addtion to a flush.

This is were it gets trickyt you really want both but many dealers ahve their individual service philosphy and will only do one or the other.

Insist on both ,with the pan drop filter exchange <after> the flush.(This may surprise them as it uses up extra fluid but do it that way).

Fred,

Once again, thanks for your guidance. I'll be sure to seek opinions here before considering anything major.

My sunroof just started sticking. My hunch is that a little cleaning of the rails and lubrication once the weather gets better will probably solve the problem since it has been working OK up to now, exceprt for one previous episode.

PeterV, the mechanic I use happens to have the BG flush machine. Infinipartsusa (Scottsdale Infiniti) sells a transmission flush kit (filter, gasket, o-ring, bottle of transmission conditioner) for about $40.00.

I bought one of those kits and took it to my local shop. I think the charged about $100 since I brought all the goodies.

You may want to check the independent shops in your area.
