That should be pretty easy to do, focus on greenhouse effects, fossil fuel consumption and emissions and their supposed impact on "acid rain".

Just a few suggestions.

Specific Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to persuade the audience that SUV's are bad for the environment

Thesis: I oppose the need for people in the city to drive an SUV I. Introduction- Attention Step- "Commercials often depict happy families driving on mountain roads, avoiding falling rocks and enjoying the flowered wilderness in leather-seated comfort. The sad truth is that these vehicles are contributing to the destruction of our natural resources."

A. Attention Getter & Reason to Listen- Also, SUVs are allowed to waste 33% more gasoline than cars. B. Speaker Credibility- I have found that SUVs release twice as much toxins into the air than a normal car. C. Thesis Statement- SUVs are a big contributor to global warming D. Preview & Purpose Statement- After explaining the negative effects of driving an SUV I hope you will agree with me that driving an SUV is very harmful to the environment

(Transition: First-of-all, I will begin by discussing the threat from global warming)

II. Main Point One- Statement of Need: As it is, SUVs are the main contributors for the amount of carbon dioxide that is released into the air. In the past 20 years, several agencies have found that 75% of the carbon dioxide released into the air is caused by humans, which is directly caused by fossil fuel burning. A. Illustration- According to the Environmental Protection Agency or EPA, "increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases are likely to accelerate the rate of climate change. Scientists expect that the average global surface temperature could rise [1-4.5°F]] in the next fifty years, and [2.2-10°F] in the next century, with significant regional variation."

B. Ramifications- They also state that " Evaporation will increase as the climate warms, [which will cause] soil moisture [to] decline in many regions, and intense rainstorms are likely to become more frequent. Sea level is likely to rise two feet along most of the U.S. coast."

C. Pointing- How would you like to see your children constantly wheeze and cough which is mainly caused by the SUVs you drive?

(Transition: Now that I have why SUVs are bad, let us move onto the solution.)

III. Main Point Two- Satisfaction Step- We need to be informed about possible measures that we can take as of today.

A. Explanation of Solution- For starters, Automakers need to learn how to manufacture SUVs that can get better gas mileage B. Theoretical Demonstration- A recent study on fuel economy standards by the National Academy of Sciences or NAS on fuel economy standards. The NAS found that trucks, SUVs, & minivans could reach 28-30 mpg for an additional cost of $1,200-$1,300.

A. Practical Experience- Thse belief has bee proven correct. For in 2000, Ford Motor Company announced it had plans to improve their SUV fleet fuel economy by 25 percent by 2005. This shows that automakers are more than capable of improving their vehicles. It also shows that a concerned public can influence a company like Ford.

A. Meeting Objections- Meet opposition by showing how your proposalovercomes any objections which might be raised.

(Transition: Next, I will discuss some of the effects if my proposed solution is not carried out IV. Main Point Three- Visualization Step- So basically, as long as automakers can step their game up and produce cleaner and more efficient burning engines, this could at least slow down the effects of carbon dioxide into the air.

A. Negative Visualization-If my solution is not carried out, the earths temperature will raise and produce storms that are more violent and rain that burns skin and kills trees. B. Positive Visualization- If my solution is carried out, our children will have a chance at a better quality of air that wont make them sick. (Transition: In conclusion

V. Conclusion- Action Step- We have learned that SUVs are nothing but harmful for the world we live in. They eat up our already quickly depleting natrual resources and cost alot more than regular passenger cars to maintain. A. Statement of Specific Action or Attitude Change Expected from audience. I expect that they will think diffrently the next time their mother or father drives them around in their SUV.

B. Statement of Personal Interest- I, personally plan to never own an SUV. C. Remember, SUVs fund terroristic activities. Your not a terrorlst, are you?

I think it would grab more attention if it was stated "Did you know only 5% of all SUV's ever are taken off the road?"

(you can tell me to stop anytime )
