What does everyone think about running one monster fan like the 16" or 18" perma cool (haven't found the mounting depth yet... their site won't load for me right now). These things push 2950cfm, but if they were used as a pusher... their design might just scatter the air off to the side of the radiator.

These fans push the most air at the tips of the blades. This is how they get ratings as high as 2950 cfm. Only a small amount of that 2950 cfm actually flows through the center portion of the fan, which is where most of your radiator area will be (you can feel this if you put your hand in front of the fan). So on a smaller radiator, such as a 240SX rad, most of the air is going to be wasted as it flows out over the edges of the radiator. Witness projectrb240 and all his heating problems with the 14" PermaCool high performance.

My opinion is that the 12" is the best size. It fits well on the radiator with about 1-2" to spare all around. My only heating problem is that my engine runs too cold with both fans running.

Thanks for the tips... so I take it you are running 2 12's? How did your ride end up anyway... haven't heard from you for a while. Post some pics when you get a chance.

Yes, I'm running 2 12" PermaCool high performance fans.

My ride is up on jacks at the moment getting the VLSD and 300ZX front/rear brake treatment. Just had a baby boy, so things are stalled for a few days....

Our radiators are only 14" of core height, so anything over the 12" permacool won't do any good. You will also need a solid ring around the edge for teh air to push through. I'd say two cheap ebay fans that push 1500cfm would work better because they are shrouded and would actually push more air through.

i run a permacool 14" fan.its the one that pushes 2950 cfm's and i have never had any over heating issues.it works quite well as the engine runs cooler and seems to feel better.i imagine if you used one of those with a 10" fan you would be set for cooling.

oh yeah, i had to nip the tips of the fans so that they would clear bracing and the radiator support.still runs fine and pushes mad air.

Run 14" and 12" Permacool Max fans together. This is the best combination from our testing in a RB powered 240SX.

Take care!
