People, I have a set of the BBS Alloy Wheels on my 94Q. Is there a way to clean and polish them so they appear new again? Mine are not bad, just want to add a little something to them.

Just want to say that I am very appreciative of the info that is available here. A shout out/thank you, to those of you who provide that info. I am not much of a hands on car person, so this site is worth its weight in gold to me. I has made it possible for me to keep my Q, bring it back to life and saved me hundreds of dollars in the process.

A soft toothbrush and mild car soap like Meguiars works for me.

May need a bug and tar remover for asphalt or tar.

I need to do the same thing to mine. Toothbrush and Meguiars won't work for me. If their like mine they look rough. Mine look like they're covered in a cracked and yellowed clear coat. I have one that is dark and "look" rusted. It isn't actually rusted. I think it's baked on brake dust.

Find a company that refinishes alloy wheels, they strip off the failing clearcoat, polish metal, then respray the clear.Check your local phonebook, call new car dealers, look in back of car magazines for ads of companies offering this service. The problem is the downtime without wheels, and the costs involved, all for 15" wheels that are becoming obsolete as far as good tire choices.....good excuse to go to a 18" tire/wheel package? I keep telling myself that when the current Exaltos need to be replaced.

Going to 18 wheels is inevitable and expensive if not quite perfect forged Z33/V35 coupe take offs are not used.

They make brushes that are made to go into the spokes of mesh type wheels, you can get them at autozone.. that might be a little less tedious than a toothbrush.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am looking to do the body work and a repaint in the spring, so maybe I can have the wheels done then. I am trying my best to put off the move to 18's for another year, if that is a possibility. Then I can buy some nice 18's and tires for the summer and mount some winters on the BBS's. In Indiana I do not want to run the same set up as the summer.

Well, I just purchased a brand new set of Exaltos and they should last me years, so I think I'll look into it more. I kept the 15" wheels because that's what the Q was designed to have. I thought that changing the wheels might cause a difference in the way the suspension wears, handling, etc...

I do see some more late model wheels that I think at 18" and think "Maybe I should have changed," but it's too late now.

So are you saying that refinishing these alloy wheels isn't a DIY job?

I have used this before very high qaulityhttp://www.autopia-carcare.com/wus-892181.html

You should remove tires from wheels. However deflation and carfull taping has worked for me

I used the matching clear clear coat afterwards, and they looked brand newhttp://www.autopia-carcare.com/wus-893351930.html

I remember reading a post from another NICO member that apparently had great success using Simple Green (concentrated degreaser). If I am not mistaken the key was to spray it and let it sit for a very short time, then rinse it off. I have not tried this myself.I tried to Search for the posting but couldn't find it.
