However, the IPL Convertible with 343 hp (as opposed to the 348 offered in the discontinued coupe model), is still available for those with more money than sense at a cool starting price of $62,100.
Now, if we have no further insecurities concerning relevance to address, we can get back to your regularly scheduled posting.
Thank you! Getting a 2015 IPL Convertible borders on being mentally deficient to the point of requiring social welfare assistance. You pay $14,000 more for a car with only 18 extra horsepower ($777.78 per extra hp). Not only that, the curbweight of the three Q60 models is:
Q60 Coupe (AWD): 3,834 pounds (the most heavy of the coupes, the Q60 Coupe Journey is 3,633 pounds)
Q60 Convertible: 4,083 pounds
Q60 Convertible IPL: 4,189 pounds
Eighteen additional horsepower for an added weight of 106 pounds is ridiculous. Utterly, mind-bogglingly, and ridiculously insufficient. One additional horsepower per additional 5.89 pounds in the Q60 IPL Convertible absolutely will not make a sufficient difference in acceleration or general performance. The brake upgrade from 13 inch to 14 inch rotors is nice, but 14 inch brakes should be standard anyway because you get
14 inch brakes in the Nissan 370Z.
If it were BMW and the M-series, you'd pay $62,000 for a 2015 M3 sedan with 425 hp and only $43,750 for the 2015 335i (the closest analog non-M car to the M3) which has 300 hp. The price per horsepower increase from the base model and the performance model (which share the same engine, a key factor here) BMW is just $146.00 at an $18,250 increase between the non-M and the M version. A much better value, performance-wise, for a
car which weighs 3,595 pounds. To put that into perspective, this BMW performance sedan weighs less than the
base Infiniti coupe.
From a business standpoint, Infiniti is only making money from this so it's great for them. Not so great for us. Besides, we know the current president of Infiniti, Roland Krüger, will not actually release the Q60 Eau Rouge.
