What do you mean by "universal turbo"?

Have you ever boosted a car before? If not, your best bet is going to be a complete bolt-on kit rather than trying to piece something together.

So digging into the Turbo side... the Versa needs SOOO much more than just a basic DIY turbo kit.

First thing I would do is an LSD( car needs one now under stock power level). Then a fuel system(large pump and healthy injectors) Then exhaust system, Inter-cooler system AND a Stand-alone engine management system. Supporting gauges, good head-gasket, head-bolts, then to find someone to tune tune it. I would think 10-12K just to get you in the ballpark safely.

I'm in the middle of all this currently.... Here is my latest new purchase.. should be good for 700AWHP(with meth) on the EVO. Also a set of 1000cc injectors.

You can pick up a used factory Turbo car (evo, wrx something) for what the parts would cost to make the proper turbo kit for the Versa... and you still on a weak chassis.

Enjoy the car for what it is..

Turbochargers.com will build you a kit in 2 weeks for $5k. I already asked them for one a year ago. I just don't have $5k.

I am currently looking at motor swap to push 160hp, similar to what Impul has done in Japan.

What hp goal are you shooting for?

I had a 03 nissan ser spec v 6 speed was thinking a qr25de from dat may fit? just dont know if the car could take that extra power haha someone mentioned weak chassis?

Don't wanna sound like a troll but if you needed some horsepower, there are many used cars you could have chosen from instead of buying a Versa.

Tuning the 1.6 (or the 1.8 for that matter) is not a good idea; as far as I know, the rods are not forged, and wouldn't take the punishment; to do this properly, you'll need to essentially beef up the lower end, upper end (valvetrain), exhaust (manifold-back), suspension (to handle the higher speeds and to improve handling)... upgrade the brakes, and god help you if you have a CVT or automatic transmission... this car was not built mod-friendly; buy a used Honda instead! In europe, a 1.6l turbo engine is available... this might be your cheapest and most sensible option; import an engine from japan or europe, with the turbo installed.

Just spend that money on a used car that already has the power. The Versa is an econobox. You knew that going in, right?

With a 6 spd manual though... (CVT with AWD pictured)

I'm already researching what it will take to get that turbo kit off the Juke engine and swap it to the Versa 1.8L. 200hp? Hmm.. maybe.

Heads up on that. Turbochargers.com of a year ago was a total sham, the guy that was running it back then is now hiding from the law. New people have taken over the shop and are trying to rebuild consumer confidence, but it's a severe uphill battle for them right now. $5k for a turbo kit isn't going to happen if you expect it to be a complete solution. The reason for it is that they'd have to spread the R&D over a number of kits and they just won't end up selling that many turbo kits for the Versa.

Figure a legitimate quote on a complete turbo kit for the Versa is going to be around $7k + tuning. Right now we're the only solution for forced induction tuning on the Versa and we have yet to see a car here for it yet. Everything else is going to be a poorly running piggyback with bad reliability problems.

It would be interesting to see a Turbo Versa though.

You'd need to do some impressive chassis reconstruction to get the QR25 into the Versa. The interesting thing about the QR25 chassis vehicles like the Sentra, well they use a mostly similar engine bay with vehicles as big as the Murano. You can get an Altima with either a QR25 or a VQ35, so the transmission mounts etc are going to be comparable in all those vehicles.

The Versa on the other hand is going to be a much smaller engine bay that will only be comparable to the Cube or Micra.

Not saying it can't be done, but you're in for a metric a** ton of work to make it happen.

How the hell you can get to 5k for a "basic" turbo kit ?
The hardest part would be to supply turbo manifold and downpipe. From there any turbo trim could be selected and tubing can be made for cheap.
And for supplying more gaz, for cheap price you could always use an fmu or add an engine management for more injectors instead of going for a full stand alone.

Please stop saying that turbo "MUST" be expensive! I've built so many turbo on so many car, that I cannot even understand why in 2010 we still debate on the price. You can even compare with greedy kit that comes with the piece of s*** piggyback and you would understand that even homemade setup would be better. The only difference is they are "branded" so it cost that much!

And btw I am working to see if an cast turbo manifold could be made for our Versa so that everyone could make their own kit instead of taking the manifold and welding back the t3 flange and have the worst flow possible.
