i am getting my taxes back in a couple weeks, and i want to put soem stuff on my car, but i am not sure what exactly woudl be the best thing to do. i will have app. 1500$ and i am open to any suggestions anyone might have. i own a stock 1989 240sx, except the exhaust is 2 1/2 pipe behind the cat with an APC muffler. if anybody has any good idesas or any motors that woudl just drop in , i woudl appreciate the tips. i know a lot abnout the sr20's, but what about droping in a late model ka24de or 300zx motor? thanx a lot

first off. please do yourself a favor and drop the APC muffler and get something respectable on the end of your exhaust. BRM makes a good product, and AZHitman can hook you up with just the muffler if you ask nicely.

1500 probably won't be enough for any kind of swap, except for maybe a ka24de.

go ahead and get the intake done now to complement your exhaust as well.

That will get you started on piecing together a turbo kit.

you won't need much more money to get started on the swap, especially if you have the resources to do it yourself. if you're gettin 1500 back you probably have a decent job. just save some more cash:ylsuper

ok, I'm not trying to strart the "which-motor-is-better-debate" we're all tired of. I'm making a suggestion based on the amount that he has to work with. Now that I got that out of the way. IF you can do your own work, I'd say go with the CA swap. They are a lot cheaper than the trendy SR swap, and it would be easier (& cheaper) to install than the SR since you got a 89 (you won't have to worry about AC lines bolting up)Now that I've said that. If you aren't comfortable doing something like that by yourself, you could save a little bit more and have the work done for you. I personally, though, would spend the money on suspension tid-bits. A good set of brake pads, rotors, shocks & springs, STBs, and bushings. I think that pretty much covers it. Before you get carried away w/ the performance mods, though, take it to a very reputable shop to get a good tune-up, and have everything adjusted. Too many people get carried away w/ what performance parts they can get w/ the money at hand, and don't think about what could be (or what could go) wrong w/ the car. Preventative maintenance is a very import part of getting the most out of your car.

well, im nto sure what i am gonna do yet, but thanx for the tips and info. the suspension upgrades deffiently sound like a good idea. but im pretrty sure that it is in good condition. also, i could probably do the engine installs on my own, if i had good instructions, i have most/all of the tools.

Yes Suspension, that includes wheels and good tires, or just the tires for now. For 500 you can get the kyb agx struts and some springs then you still have 1000 for suspension or put about 400 into an lsd. So 500 on susp. 400 on lsd and 600 left for full exhaust or more suspension goodies. Labor not included...do it yourself.

why not suspension and brakes first. Sucks to have this new found power and not being able to handle/harness it properly
