performance chip for engine?!

any1 heard of a chip that bypasses the temp sensor on yur car? well i have one, my car runs louder and a bit faster. but is it bad for my car in the long run? i took chip out till i get a reasrance that it wount mess with naything to have the temp sensor unpluged. thx
