Mmmmm......service history?

So much to know.

Well, at 12 years and 120K, I think the plenum, EGR, IAC, thermostat and the hoses need to be inspected and replaced.

What I recommend is that you pull up a chair every night for the next few weeks and read every post by Q45tech. Might start with words like Plenum and Knock Sensors and Hoses if you want to search first.

The question you need to ask yourself is what are the alternatives to investing time and money into the car for the return vs. purchasing something else of unknown quality and durability. You have done well on the easy things, it is now time to catch up on the long term items, or punt to bigger debt on a newer vehicle or a lesser vehicle.

Oh, it will take more than a couple of weeks for all of Q45tech's posts and to follow his hyperlinks.

Why you should start with the articles, and have the FSM and TSB nearby for reference as the old and new testament for St. Dennis. A few searches should get you focused on your immediate problems, but will invariably raise more questions about which you will want to read.

Thanks for helping out Brian.....

Anyway, brian is right, however all those thigns are REQUIRED but it may not get to the bottom of your problem... We see this a lot with Q45s that run better cold than hot, and I honestly think it may have to do with the ECU.. The timing is way advanced during warmup... If your KS are bad, your cooling system isnt running at par (keeping temps below 194F), then you start seeing multiple causes for the same symptom.....

brian ,wes, thanks again. it seems all my posts may start his way. will keep reading and asking questions whenever they arise. i'm starting to think this cooling system is the first thing i need to get to the bottom of. lindy

Without bi-annual flushes, thinks can go to pot quickly. Might want to consider converting to OAT coolant. In Chicago, you will probably want to run 50/50 mixture. Depends if the car spends nights out.

Think about a new thermostat, maybe rodding or replacing the radiator if it is bad, and inspecting the water pump. There are a couple of hoses and a sacrificial anode you will want to replace if you do the radiator work.

How is your engine driven fan clutch?

water pump 0k, replaced a couple of years ago.will flush coolant; maybe only done every other year and yes 50/50. what i did find just the other day was a coolant leak at what i thought was the radiator cap. but it was the part below which the cap is attached. replaced it and leak is fixed. the electric fan in front of the radiator is making a bad noise now. does the radiator, condenser all have to come out to get at it? and can the motor be re-habed or must it be a new one? if all his has to come out now would be the time to get radiator serviced, thermostat, and anything else you fellows can think i should or should've taken care of by now done. thanks again, lindy
