What would it be? I'm doing this on a college budget and was just looking around for some different options. Lowering springs or coilovers? Struts, shocks, anything along that nature and brands also. I'm kinda new to this so I don't know too much....

What is the purpose of the suspension mods? Daily Driver or for Drifting / Auto Cross competition?

Your college budget will depend on the purpose and requirements that you desire.

You want a lowered car for just Daily Driver use, your best bet is to get aftermarket lowering springs. Maybe you can afford those along with aftermarket OEM replacement struts (your original struts are likely shot to SH*%). If the original struts are still good, just the springs.

If your intent is to have a DD that can go drifting from time to time, I suggest just going the whole way and getting the coilovers. Others might tell you different.

If the whole purpose of this is to just have a drifting / autocross car set up, then your again are looking at coilovers.

Pricing for coilovers will range from low end $799 to high end $2200+. But there is a lot of very good quality coilovers that range between that $1100 to $1800 range. If you can swallow the difference, you will likely be pleased with it.

Your most budget friendly move as a college student would be the lowering springs. Then Lowering springs and new shocks. Moving upwards towards coilovers.

Also, if you don't have it, a sway bar makes for some great modification.

Hope this helps. Others please chime in with suggestions.

The other thing you can do, is get some good shocks, and lowering springs, then once you deiced you want a higher spring rate, you can get some ground control, or if you get Koni shocks, they make them as well, lower adjustable spring perches and springs. Then you will have ride height adjustability, and be able to run pretty much any rate spring you want, so long as the shock can take it. More of a stair step, so you don't have to trash your shocks and springs all at once.

The best thing you can do, if you are in fact serious about drifting or what not. Is hit as many schools as you can. Nothing will make you faster than seat time. you throw a crappy driver in a fast car, and if he doesn't loose it altogether, he still won't be fast. You can put a good driver in damn near any car they will be fast (relatively speaking of course). Then once you decide if you are serious, then start adding parts to the car once the loose nut behind the wheel is worked on.

The only thing else I can add, is read as much as you can. get informed on how suspension works, and why. Once you have a decent idea of what is going n with your car from a theory point of view, you will be able to make better, more informed decisions.
