the boost designs stage 3 kit comes with 9:1 pistons is that what one would want for a ka-t

i have not yet started my project yet just trying to figure out what i would need

thanks

9:1s will be fine. They will help spool up if you are going with a bigger turbo. You may be more prone to running race gas if you wanna up the boost a lot though.

9:1 is a great compression ratio. thats what i am running. check my sig for some performance data. Ivan made 400rwhp on a stock ka with great tunning. so dropping the compression even slightly with forged pistons will give tons more protection against whatever you throw at it.

jsut remember you can have a completely built low *** compression motor and still blow it if it isnt tunned well

It depends on what your application is for. If it is street driven, then I would say anywhere from 9:1 to 9:5:1 properly tuned. I've had 9:8:1 on my mr2 setup with an autronix standalone.

9.8:1 what was your setup? i dont think ive ever heard of a street driven car running that high unless it was an NA-T that didnt have a rebuilt longblock and ran 10psi max.

My first mr2 was a 95 turbo with a gen 3 motor in it. I ran it for awhile on stock internals and made 474 at the wheels with 23psi of boost with the greddy T-67 kit. After I sold that one, I bought another mr2(shell) and continued the process of rebuilding it. With this setup, I made 564 at the wheels with 20 psi. My setup is as follows:

greddy t78 kitRoss machine racing intake manifold4 primary 550cc injectors 4 secondary 720cc injectorsair to water intercoolerstock rodscustom cp pistons (9:8:1)act clutchjun flywheelhks 272 264 camsbuilt headetc.

I am in the process of rebuilding my 240 as we speak. with the following setup:

custom pistons (9:5:1)pauter rodsboost logic turbo kit or custom(not sure yet)fully built headcustom regrind camsboost logic intake manifoldetc.

My primary goal is to have a nice streetable 350-400hp street car, that would spool up nice and make lots of torque down low. Thats why I prefer a higher compression ratio.

I'm not too sure why it seems like a lot of people in the nissan community seemed to be scared of compression. I know quite a few people running 10:1 or even higher aftermarket pistons and running boost levels of 15psi and over, some even on pump gas. There is nothing wrong with it and their **** isnt blowing up. Make sure you're getting plenty of fuel and not getting careless with your timing. I am by no means saying high is the way to go, cuz I beleive in making the turbo make your power not your piston compression . . . but 9.5 isnt crazy and 9:1 seems to work very well. I personally will never go past 8.5:1 if even that. . . but then again thats only a matter of oppinion.

I believe in order to run higher compression, you will need to run some kind of standalone though! None of these piggybacks.

The NA maps will kill you if you use anything higher then stock compression. Unless your using alky or water injection.

MY Celica GTS has 11.5/1 compression and I know several people running 10 psi on pump gas with a JWT type ecu.
