Pepboys has mobil 1 synthetic motoroil on sale right now for 3.99, their calendar which costs a dollar has a coupon for buy 3 get 3 free...

end result $2.33+ tax for a quart after you factor in the cost of the calendar

Thought this may help anyone looking to go synthetic with their next oil change...

Treating the J this weekend

just came back from Pep Boyz! got 3 calenders for 3 dollars-and tons of savings-with coupons from the calendars, here is what I got-3 FREE bottles of Techron,3 FREE bottles of "wax as u dry",3 FREE bottles of Rain X car wash, and 18 quarts of M1 for 36 dollars!not a bad day at all!anyone think using M1 0w-40 would be a good idea in the Q?,even though the manual recommends 5 or 10w-30?

The M1 0w-40 is an excellent idea in a Q in an older one all year around in a brand new one summer only.

Its one of my 2 favorite oils right now.

Fred,

I'm pretty sure you've anwsered this before, but I just can't remember.

Do you have any technical objection to stocking up on M1 given the present good deal available?

I've got a 93 J30 , 2001 3/4 ton suburban with an 8.1L and 4.10 gear and a 1990 Master Craft 240sc Ski boat with a HO454 to feed and care for. I typically run 5w-30 in the J and put 5w-40 in the burb last change and 15w-50 in the boat. The burb shows higher start up oil pressure w/ 5w-40 vs 5w-30 and has a more noticeable piston skirt knocking on start up than with the 5w-30. I'll be going back to the 5w-30 for the winter. Thought the higher 40 might be better in the Tucson desert heat. Didn't really like the 5w-40 start up.

Thanks, Matt

PS As a Chemist myself, I always look forward to your responses. I'm not a praticing one anymore so it is good to hear the tech speak once in a while. I deal with other bad actors now.
