My car rattles alot from loud bass..I've bought sound dampening tar sheets to deaden most of the rattles and it worked pretty good. Still had rattles though, so I took a can of expanding foam and sprayed it in all the nooks and crannies that were just dead space, which helped out a little. BUT, the rear deack still rattles like a ***** and a couple other places I just can't kill. Is anyone else hearing annoying rattles? I don't have super mega bass either...

That's just the nature of the assembly/materials of a car that is built on a cost-effective budget. You see, a '96 240sx wasn't exactly assembled by hand, with great care given to whether or not a given panel will rattle if acted upon by the abnormal vibration and harshness of a sub. Nearly every car has or will have similar rattle issues. Just part of the give & take...

My S13 coupe hasn't had that much rattling problems, guess I'm lucky. I've got 2 10s and upgrade inside with about 1000 watts total.

I took out all the sound deadening stuff in my car, just the stock amount weighs like 13lbs. I also took out the rear interior panels behind the back seat including the carpet.

I don't have a radio, speakers, or speaker wire and my antenna and the assiciated wires is going bye bye too :D

This may help, I just revamped my rear deck. Went to Home depot and got some wood 1/4 thick I believe, although stock is 1/8 I think. Pulled the old one traced it put in the new one, drilled the holes up from the trunk, went to the local car store and almost bought them out of those lil pop in clips, went to a stereo store and bought some black carpeting covered it and threw the speakers on and threw it in. I need help drilling the holes had someone in the car holding the piece where I wanted it if you get the holes off center it wont pop back in.

One more thing... put some of the sound deadening tar tape stuff on the trunk poles in the trunk around the hinges,m they cause the most noise. I think you can get away with even zip tieing them a lil bit but too much and the trunk wont close. The stuff used for anti rust sprayed under the car or tool spray works okay, its like a rubber barrier just not very thick unless you do it a lot. TT

We're turning mine into a 2 seater, and I'm fiberglassing 6 JBL POWER 12's into the backseat, should be enough to rattle the car next to me.:)

I will never have a system in my 240sx. I had a decently loud system in my altima, and I don't want that again. All sound systems (subwoofers plus an amp) just create problems. I just put in concept components all the way around and a cd deck in the 240sx. That should be sufficient for my needs. Systems are for rice boys

dynamat on the back of your license plate helps too. and dynamat around under and behind your dash. basically, take everything out of the car down to metal. then put dynamat on every square inch of the inside. put the car back together...and spend the rest of your life going crazy about where that squeak is coming from that only happens when you pull into your driveway at a certain angle and speed.

i took off bumpers heatshields, everything, headliner.there is six layers on the back panel alone.dynamat a reipp off.visciolastic rock,s.20 bucks a sheet.comparable to cascades VB1.exactly.mcmaster-carr online carries it.if your using dynamat you have much to learn.i have a real problem paying for a silk screened name.its b.s..and if you want it done right,do it yourself.dont pay to have someone do it.i would recomenned rubatex on the plate, lighter and soft.plumbing department.

I recently graduated from Mobile dynamics in Toronto Ontario with my Basic and First Class MECP(Mobile Electronic Certification Program) degrees and i know for a fact there is no way in hell 2 10's can produce 160 decibels unless you have your car built with bullet proof glass concrete steel renforcing NO INTERIOR and quiet afew batteries and amplifiers and even with that lets say 20,000 watts per 10 in the best spl box you could build oh and for the hell of it lets make these jl 10w7's at $400 a piece you might be able to produce 155 decibels for the quick second before they melt their voice coils and its all over

If you can provide me with information on these astonishing 10's i'd love to get them if they can make 160 db just curious do you know how loud 160 db is?? 156 db will make your lungs collapse and will also cause your heat to beat to the music (cool to picture :) ) anyway i'm done wrambling

Oh yeah guys if your looking for sound deadener Very cheap just go on yahoo or a search engine and type either B-QUIET or BROWN BREAD both very very cheap products you can pick up BB for around 170 or so for 70 SQ FT!!!

How do you guys check the dB level? Is there a cheap way to do it, or am I gonna have to spend quite a bit of money on an SPL monitor?

Take your car to a local soundff stereo competition, should be cheap to enter, then you can find out on their meter
