for the people here saying ADD is made up, you dont know what your talking about

however, the term ADD is so wideley used, and 90% of the kids who claim they have ADD dont even have it. The people here who have the real deal will know how it is, and sombody else here stated it pretty well.

thats like saying sombody having a disease in their legs making it almost impossible for them to walk without crutches is really just too lazy to walk, simply because you can walk without problems, and when your legs get tired, you can still walk even though its harder.

as far as having a planner and writing in it... for some reason, even though i know that will help me a lot, i cant stand the thought of being reliant on a piece of paper and stuff, and to this day i still refuse to do that

meanwhile i have no problem using medicine to help me focus during school hours... go figure

i also noticed like sombody said earlyer, if im working on a table thats clean i can focus, whereas if im working on the same table, but theres a bunch of random papers lying around and empty cups and just random stuff, i cant even get started on whatever it is because my mind just keeps drifting off into random stuff, no matter how many times i try to bring myself back

and i totally agree on the down time part.. it helps alot considering you have to focus incredilby hard to get the simplest homework tasks done that you do not have intrest in, or just simply seems like an overwhelming amount. by the time im done with stuff like this (taking 3 times as long as people in my class that im BETTER at the stuff than), you get really stressed out and your mind needs the break

its funny, like for example ill study the stuff for a science test and ill know it really good and the test has been going for 20 minutes and i get stuck at number 3 after literally a minute and a half, not because i cant figure out the problem, but because my mind drifts off into so many places, and once i catch myself and go back to focus, after lets say 5 more problems it just keeps reeating again, and its not somthing thats easy at all to controll

I dunno if I have ADD but all I know is that when I was taking it *ahem under the counter in high school for five months I was a straight A student. I didn't really notice any weird side effects except for the fact that I felt kinda paranoid and suspicious. But that's prolly because I didn't eat and that always f*cks with your head.

ADD is highly overdiagnosed but if you really do have it Sketchy (which it sounds like you do) medication will only take you so far and just building mental willpower to see things through will help you out a lot.

Actually, I've found that "mental willpower" has little to do with it, at least for me.

My mind WANTS to wander, it WANTS to multitask, so putting myself in a situation where I'm trying intently to focus on a single task is very prone to failure.

Instead, I let it wander. I allow myself to multitask. I do much better work at the office when I've also got six browser windows open and I'm listening to finance internet radio. My mind can hop around and it then feels natural to make the work just one more thing my brain is doing. I can also do this by having 2 or 3 work tasks happening at one time, which really helps my productivity relative to "normal" people. I get more done than anyone else in my office by a comfortable margin.

Yeah that could possibly help a lot too. Instead of focusing on one single thing, set out multiple things and work a little on each one. As for test-taking...well thats a tough one...

that actually works good for me too

in my case, i find that if i have math history and science hw, ill do math hw for 10 minutes, or a certain number of problems, then i do history for a little, then ill switch back to math and then do science after, but thats just to keep me from doing too much of the same hw and going crazy lol

depending on what it is im doing, multitasking can actually help alot too

taking tests is just impossible for me lol

Yeah, way too much s*** to read. Those who wrote so much, WHAT THE HELL?!?! He already told you he had ADD. How is that going to help?

OP - it's not easy, but what I always did was try to focus on multiple things at once. Like, do your HW and one or two other things at the same time (e.g. listen to music and post on NICO).

Also helps to go somewhere as sensory depriving as possible. In HS, just being in class usually worked as I didn't like most people. In college, my room (before 6-7, when partying start in my Apt) or work or an empty corner of library/study lounge/cafe, etc.

CLIFF NOTES for ADHDMAX ppl: Do mulitple things at once while doing homework.

Concerta!!!Ask about it, it is a sustained release pill that lasts for 12 hours. keep pills in different locations, like the bathroom, car, kitchen, so that when you remember that you need to take it you can do it immediatly.
