Ok with this hurricane about to hit TX, there are rumors here that gas is going to be $5.15 a gallon at midnight tonight. So everyone and thir brother is at the gas stations. There are people fighting over who was there first, ect. And the news stations are there filming it all.

What is this country coming to? Why are we allowing this to happen.

10 yrs ago, when a hurricane would hit the gulf, no one batted an eye. Now all of a sudden it is a crisis!

I could go on for pages on this, but won't.

Is this happening anywhere else in the country/ world?

It's the media. 10 years ago the news was different then now. Now all they,we care what goes wrong. If you ask me it is stupid.

Damn*t I was just working on the motivation to get off my a*s to get gas and beer and that hurt it. Still need beer though.

I don't understand how the gas in the tank that was the same price yesterday is now worth 50 cents more.

If this storm effects the oil platforms were all boned. It's amazing how fast the prices jump when something effects the supply chain, but don't go down nearly as fast once everything is returned to normal operation. I have always felt that the oil companies decide to gouge us worse when a crisis hits, although the actual production run that is in progress is not effected.

Do they not have the insurance to cover damage from storms in the Gulf? Why do we need to absorb the cost so immediately?

They adjust prices based on the cost of the next shipment. So when the possibility of price increase occurs, they jack up their prices immediately.

my friend called last night and said his gas station was jumping up to $4.70 today, sure enough...it jumped. so when i got off the phone last night, i pulled the 240 in the garage, took the bike to the gas station and filled it up @ 3.70 a gallon.

it just went back down to 3.99 a couple hours ago here in ky.

Yeap that too.

Slowly I believe everybody shifted to the "bad news era". Now it looks like the only things are in the news the bad things. I stopped watching news long time ago. I don't even like to read about it on the net.

My homepage is a sport page. If some bad thing happenes my co-workers ormy friend will tell me anyways. That's how I heard about IKE.

I find that things work much better that way. I am the same way, I had CNN as my homepage for a good while and it's just such a downer always negative. It sucks that that's reality but I like my little bubble.

Here in DC it's everywhere and you have to stay in touch to an extent to be able to retain a conversation with people. I cannot wait to move.

Sounds like a flawed archaic system to me.I have spent many hours intently watching the refining process on the Discovery Channel, I understand that it's a complex and time consuming process and the cost per unit is still relatively low. It just seems like as the news of continuously increasing record profits they are trying to gouge us one last time before the inevitable switch to alternative fuels.

As of 9 pm gas is 3.99 at most stations. And a few are as high as 4.99. Price gouging at its finest.

Both the Sheetz staions in town ran out of regular gas today by 5 pm.

And the storm has yet to hit land.

Once the storm lands it would be better. Nobody will go out for gas.

Steve. Which dealer do you work at in Alexandria? I live like 3 hrs south of you in Lynchburg. The closest dealers are in Richmond or Chantilly. Would be nice if I had any warranty issue to know a tech at a dealer.

Thats what all my friends w/ VW/Audi's do w/ me. (I'm a VW tech)

Awdjdmtalon... I may have seen you around Lynchburg... I go to Liberty and am out driving pretty much everyday.

And one of the guys in my dorm told me that he heard that gas was gonna get to $8 by sunday! I was like GTFO... I highly doubt that...

Everything here in Tampa that I have seen is still south of 4 bux a gallon! But it sux... I filled up the Jeeps and the Boat and the G at 3.48 I also have 4 30 gallon tanks that I filled at that price! All of that is premium

I hope it goes down but my energy stocks are really liking this!

Good luck guys and be ready for gas lines!

Oh my GF's brother works for BP on an oil rig and he said all the oil that they pull out of the gulf goes to the reserves! only 13% of what they get goes to be used for the public!.... Isn't that some crap!

I dont get it, 10-15 years ago when hurricanes hit the gulf coast, did gas always have an exponential spike in the price cause i dont recall that ever happening, i remember seeing this happen only after katrina hit, the ones before had no effect on prices...maybe 10 cents give or take...but not 50+!!!!

Lol true, i love how things are going right , middle east screwing us over (google dubai in year 2000, then 2008), then there's the weakend us dollar, and ever since katrina came by oil companies jack their prices up (price gouging at its finest) just because a large rain storm is coming, basically im speechless, oil executives take us as morons (but the thing they haven't realized yet is they can't bulls*** a bulls***er) and they use hurricanes as an excuse to raise prices, im just getting tired of it

if i ever meet a oil executive... he is going to kick the a$$ kicking of a lifetime

wow thats pretty messed up, but yeah i'll do that too, video it and put it on youtube and get praised for it, then after im done running the executive over i'll ask him to define irony or something witty like that ...but honestly i know they have been making record profits (money left over after expenses) for the past 3+ years, but what will be enough for them? i personally want them to tell me what necessity means

That's just amazing, I didn't know that the number was so low. It seems like a downside of the free market. Most products follow normal supply and demand, not gas though. Supply goes "down" (either actually or theoretically) price goes up, demand drops as it has over the first three quarters this year and prices stay high. I don't get it.

The newer designed oil platforms are designed to withstand storms like that since hurricanes in the gulf are nothing new. I am sure they retain some damage but its not like they didn't expect that.

If we are supplying the strategic oil reserve than how would that effect the consumer supply? Sounds like the media and the oil companies are in it together to me. I don't know if they have the daily gas price tracker on the new were you are but the news tries to make it a bigger deal than it really is. Just a thought, but I would not be surprised if it were true, unfortunately .
